As the title says. I am currently looking for a game that was finally released free to the public in 2010 before ReWerX shut down. The file was "Ascension.zip".

The archived website with the dead download links >> https://web.archive.org/web/20100324202020/ht … ingle/NewsID/41

The game was similar to Tribes. Thanks for any help and hopefully somebody has it just sitting on their HDD. Anyone remember this title?

I'm not sure if I really remember this one...

The only "tribes-alike" game I ever heard of and played was called "Legends", which went through two major development milestones before suddenly migrating to the Torque Advanced Shader Engine and then that was the last I ever heard of that project. I can't seem to find the particular release of that before they overhauled some of the assets. (The old version had a really low quality set of sounds for the "Mortar" like weapon)

They didn't complete the project and moved on to other things, they released some unfinished code to the community and there might have been a testing build at one point released to a few people but you'd maybe need to check on a tribes related forum n see if any of the old timers were involved n still have the files.

Yes, RenWerX was known for their Tribes mod called Renegades and they also started to develop their own standalone product called Ascension.

That is correct, they did not complete the project, but they most certainly had multiple working builds. The zip file at their archived page I linked was the final working build. I just thought I would take a long shot and see if anyone had it around on their HDD here. I have a few emails out and unfortunately most of the Tribes players today are young and don't remember any of these things from a decade ago. Just wanted to grab the file for preservation's sake. I'll keep poking around. Thanks.

This most recent search of mine did lead me to the abandoned Starsiege 2845 project and I have been playing around with their Alpha Tech Release as they called it before shutting down. Quite good actually with a handful of vehicles to play with. It also uses the Torque game engine like Ascension did from GarageGames. Amazingly, GarageGames still exists and the Torque engine is open source now >> http://www.garagegames.com/products/torque-3d

Funny how when looking for one thing it leads you to another. So I got to thinking that open source Torque game engine has to have some sort of tech demo to show off what you can do with it. Sure enough they have a tutorial on how to get a test FPS game up and running using the engine. If you download their FPS Tutorial demo and drill down to the "game" folder you will find a fully compiled one level multiplayer tech demo game exe. A fun little find. Haven't tried the multiplayer portion yet, but just exploring the one level was interesting. One building in this game allows you to climb up to the rooftop and look over the city.
