I hope the title is not too confusing, if so feel free to propose a better one.

For a game to qualify for this list the only prerequisite is a concrete reference to a specific date in the future (relatively to the game's release date), but this date to be in the past now. Example: a game released in 1990 and its story takes place in 2000. It can be in the intro, appearing as the game's story unrolls, in the manual... anything goes as long as it's documented.

This is apparently a thing among movies fans and I thought to create a thread for games since I have a few in mind that I'll be gradually adding and, well, I find a certain charm in these references. Other than that, it's of course completely pointless.

Let's start with a rather unpopular Sierra AGI game from 1988 that was probably the first to ditch the text parser, contrary to common belief.

A classic from 1991 is next, Duke Nukem (or Nukum to be correct) was sent from CIA to defeat Doctor Proton in 1997 as the story reveals.

Niiice, I didn't know about this. Which makes this thread even more pointless 😀 After a brief look is t's far from complete though so I guess it doesn't hurt remembering some more games here

MobyGames has a dedicated category for this, which is likely the most complete list you'll get ATM:
Setting: Future now Past

Another list I wasn't aware of. Oh well then this thread can die in peace, it served its purpose though since I believe most of us didn't know there were such lists.
Thanks for this, I had a look at it and it appears to be well populated indeed.

I remember playing this when I was younger, and was actually researching this again a couple weeks ago. What I find cool is that the family that wrote this game for Sierra still exists. The name is Evryware. (http://www.evryware.com/) While they haven't released anything recently and are focusing more on web design, I had no idea that they are also who are responsible for The Ancient Art of War series. Pretty cool stuff. 😀
