I'm curious about how this works, because tape is linear media, and Pirates! is a non-linear game. Do you have to rewind the tape and replay it to get to "previous" parts of the game? Is it structured any differently from the disk version to minimize this? Or does the entire game just fit into the C64's memory? If so, what features/content had to be cut?

I tried to emulate this myself to see, and side A loaded fine and got me to the title screen, but after being prompted to flip to side B and hit play, I did this, and nothing at all happened as it reached the end of the tape.

Running:
Windows 10
Core i5-6600
Geforce GTX 970
8GB RAM

If I'm not mistaken, that's how most cassette programs worked. (I recall way back in the day the Coleco ADAM could load data from the tape while it was running, but I think those were a proprietary digital format.)

There's got to be a Pirates fansite out there that has documented this sort of thing.
