Hello,
Has anyone tried modding newer drivers to support the older GTX460? If anyone has been successful, which is the newest working drivers for it? OS would be Win7 64 bits. Thank you.

Isn't GTX460 already supported on Win7? What feature do you need from newer drivers?

It is supported, but I cannot get some GOG re-releases to work. Their minimum requirements only mention DX 11 support for graphics, which the GTX460 handles.

I don't understand. Fermi already had support for DX11... What error did you encounter exactly?

Crashes on startup on a few remastered reissues (eg.: Chasm: The Rift). I also have random crashes during gameplay on very few non-remastered reissues (eg.: SpeedBusters). None of them has been reported by other customers.

I'm not sure about the titles you're playing. What exactly are the requirements for the remastered versions?

It only came up to me recently that Win10 introduced some different DLLs in regards to DirectX and such, that are incompatible with older Windows including Win7. So if the game explicitly stated Win10 as a minimum requirement then there is a chance Win10-specific DLLs are being used. For some symbols there were suggestions about modding the executable using CFFExplorer to point to the corresponding Win7 DLL/API, but there's no guarantee things would work afterwards, as one may eventually hit a wall against a Win10-exclusive symbol that does not have a corresponding match for Win7.

As for non-remastered ones, I'm not really sure if these titles were having issues with Win7 and onwards since the very beginning, as the crashes may or may not be related to video cards so more details are needed...

Chasm: The Rift minimum requirements:
System: 64-bit Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10 / 11
Processor: Dual Core 2Ghz Processor
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX 11 compatible for 1920×1080
DirectX: Version 11
Storage: 2 GB available space
Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
(Nothing on my system is below that)

Speed Busters minimum requirements:
System: Windows XP or Vista
Processor: 1.8 GHz
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics: 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended)
Storage: 2GB HDD
(Again, nothing on my system is below that)

Okay so everything's within requirement... What kind of error?

Something like "xxx has stopped working"?

If that's the case you may be able to find some hints from Event Viewer -> Application. If the game is able to produce a crash log/dump it may also be helpful in pointing out which exactly was crashing it.

Exactly, but I don't think Event Viewer clues are clear to me.

It looks like the crash (segfault) didn't point to anything other than the game program itself.

You may try enabling compatibility modes, but I don't really know how that function works and that it never really worked for me before.

Which nVidia driver version are you using? If you think the newest driver may be faulty, you may try an older one.

I'm using the 391.35 drivers which is the latest supporting the GTX460. I thought of newer ones because they have fixes for newer releases and I've never seen anything break after upgrading the drivers on Win7.

So have you tried any older drivers? nVidia drivers can be a hit or miss that in some cases, newer drivers != better.

Not yet, but I'm guessing the GTX460 doesn't meet the minimum requirements for some reason as none of the workarounds on the GoG forums worked for me.
Regarding Speed Busters, the original game was already way too buggy, but apparently, it has something to do with the car I choose. I'm able to finish a race with certain cars without any issues, but selecting other cars make the game crash even before finishing one lap.

Strange... Fermi does have DX11 support so if it stated DX11 as requirement then there's no reason GTX460 shouldn't work on D3D API level grounds.

How about other cards within Fermi ranges, such as 400, 500 series and low-end 600 series? Had anyone with these cards reported similar crashes like the one you had, under similar environments (Win7 x64)?

If the particular issue affects every Fermi owner... then yes, there's concrete proof of incompatibility.

On the GoG forums most users cards are not mentioned. One mentioned an AMD system. Only Win10 is mentioned as their OS. Strangely, DX12 is mentioned there instead of DX11.
