Hi all,

Does anyone have experience using the ATI version of Mechwarrior 2 on an AGP Rage Pro Turbo?

I've got it installed on my K6-2 machine (downclocked to 233 (66x3.5) to get my SIdeWinder 3D Pro to reliably connect) and I'm getting odd behaviour.

I'm using one of the latest recommended "compatible" driver packages from https://gona.mactar.hu/ATI_3D_CIF/.

What's happening is that when looking at open areas (basically without any mountains/elevated ground I get excellent framerate, but the second I have anything else in view it drops to about 1-3 fps. The second mission of the Jade Falcon campaign is a great example - when you start it runs great, but as soon as you try to go through the pass to the first waypoint it becomes unplayable.

Any suggestions?

You may have to modify one of the parameter files due to performance differences of the Rage II and Rage Pro cards:

Already did some of the suggested changes - no real change, but perhaps I haven't done it properly.

Had a moment where I though I might have had an alternate option - found an 8MB S3 card I had on hand, but it turned out to be a Savage3D not a ViRGE.

The comments on those pages suggest that the Rage Pro should work, but perhaps slow... they're mentioning 15-20 fps which would be fine, I'm getting as low as 2 fps, which is why I though it might be something else.
