Hello, I just built a Windows 3.11 486 computer. I have Windows 3.11 for Work groups installed.
However I do not know how to fix the Long file name listing in File explorer.
The file names are limited to 8 characters and appear like this

wfw311 preadted win95+LFN by a lot. You have to patch DOS itself to even start win311 on dos7. I believe Keropi posted patches.

google shows this thread;
Making Windows 3.11 work in DOS7.10 (patches inside)

Well said.

(PS: I recall seeing a fake LFN driver for Win 3.1 years ago.
It stored aliases of 8.1 files in a text file, I belive. Forgot how it was called, though.)

One time I killed an NT4 install cause I defragged that drive in MS-DOS. It renamed all the LFN directories and files to 8.3 format.

Update. I have no wish to inflame matters further, but I think I've found what I was talking about earlier..
The program is/was called "LFN(TM) (Long File Names for Windows)".
