Does anyone know how to get DoomGL to run the timedemo, like the DOS version of Doom does?

In Windows, if I open the command console, and type DOOMGL.EXE -timedemo demo3, the screen goes blank and stays blank. Hitting a bunch of keys gets my Windows desktop back, but the command console says, "Demo is from a different game version".
