On my new 95 machine, I noticed that, with the derelict copy of 95 that was installed on it, neither the splash nor "It is now safe" screens show. I recently formatted the hard drive and put my own, fresh install of 95 on it. But guess what? They doesn't seem to show with the new install either! I added Logo=1 to a config file (can't remember the name) as per some instructions I found online, but that didn't do anything. There's a time, during startup, where the screen is just totally black. I'd assume the Windows 95 splash would usually go there. When the computer shuts down, instead of the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen, it shows a similar message ("You can now safely turn off your computer") in text mode. Could it be a video card thing? Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? Thanks.

And yes, I know this is a pretty dumb question, but I think anyone could agree that Windows 95's clouds are part of the experience. Anyone? no? ok. </joke>

What PC is it?
the splash screen only shows briefly in the whole boot process so on a fast PC it'll barely show at all.
Even my 5x86 the black screen seems to show longer then the splash screen.

I've got the same complaint with my 486 and Win 3.11, I wish splash screen lasted longer then it does and I swear it showed longer when I was young, but then it was bogged down with all sorts of software back then.

So thats an option, install some old AV program that'll slow your boot time no end 😜

Or just get a dog-slow HDD. Say, an 80MB IDE or 40MB ST506/ST412 (MFM/RLL) model. 😁

I don't think it's the speed of the computer. The splash screen will show even on a Pentium 4, from the testing that I have done.

You say the shutdown screen appears in text mode? That, to me, indicates some other problem. Did it have trouble with the default VGA driver when you first installed it?

I think it displays those screens in VGA/MCGA 320x200 mode. Try running some games that use that mode and see if they have issues. Maybe your video card is bad or incompatible somehow.

Also it's not a dumb question and yes the clouds are part of the experience.

It's a 50 MHz 486, so if it shows on a P4, I think it would on here 😜
I did notice that in the boot log, it said "Logo disabled". Wonder what that's about?
I'll also download TweakUI and see if it can be screwed around with.

I'll try running Wolfenstein. Will report back. Thanks for the advice!
