Dear readers,

I'm trying to play Hexen2 on an HP Vectra viE8:
Pentium 3 500mhz
128mb RAM
Nvidia Quadro NVS 280 64MB
Terratec ESS-Solo soundcard.

I had an Diamond Stealth Viper v550 GPU card before the quadro and it ran fine. I changed it out for the quadro NVS280 and games like Quake2, Unreal Tournament, Blood2, Aliens VS Predator, Driver all run fine with it.
I used latest forceware for drivers in Win98. I know the Quadro NVS isn't meant to be a gamecard but does the job very well so far, except for Hexen2.
When i start it goes into standard low res 320x200 mode. When i choose fullscreen 800x600 or any other mode it flickers shortly and the game hangs....
I don't start it with GLH2.exe but the normal H2.exe.

Should I delete the opengl32.dll and try GLH2.exe glide mode?
Anyone tips for running it properly in hi-res?

Thanks !!

Few notes on Hexen 2 and high res, the text doesn't scale so the higher resolution you go the harder it is to read, Hexen II runs opengl so replacing the opengl32.dll one may help. it's the same graphics chip as the FX5500 and FX5200 so forcing the non quadro drivers may work. not tried as i don't have any of those cards.

Replace it with one installed with fx5200 opengl32 file? Or simply delete to not replace?

Thanks!

I'd delete the one in the game folder first and if that doesn't work try the one for the 5200/5500 drivers

Sorry but have to ask: i deleted opengl32.dll from hexen2 but to no good. Some happened, pc hangs.
Do you replace the file with another in hexen folder?
Or simply let it pick from nvidia driver?
And can i load the fx 5200 drivers instead of the nvs 280? Will it gove same compatibility ?
Thanks for your help.

-dibonly

The reason is that nvidia's drivers suck with fullscreened paletted stuff with DirectDraw. It's not just specific to your card here.

The viper 16mb did it perfectly. I just removed it from the rig because of slow performance in unreal tournament. The nvs 280 was a cheap pci option so went for it. Better than expected 👌.

Is the -dibonly a parameter to be used with h2.exe?
Such a noob i am 😀
