im wondering what was the hirens boot cd or strelect that was used during the win98 or windows xp era
was there any or that was only introduced later.

There was the Ultimate Boot CD(UBC) as well. You could delete user/admin passwords. Tidy up burked MickySoft windows installs , create images of hdds and a lot of other good shit.
