Black Dahlia - 1998 Take 2 Software

Requires Pentium 90, but 120+ recommended.

The story, while fictional, is inspired by the real life Cleveland Torso Murderer and the infamous murder of Elizabeth Short in Los Angeles.

This interactive movie point-and-click FMV adventure game ties Elizabeth Short's murder to Nazis and occult rituals which the player has to investigate. The game featured two major Hollywood actors, Dennis Hopper and Teri Garr.

Railroad Tycoon? Ultima Underworld 2? You sure about the list was of 1995?

it is likely a list of games ranked by sales in 1995, not released in 1995.

Boppin outsold SQ6 and VGA Planets outsold Doom? 🤣. looks more like a pirate survey list from somewhere out of the warez scene.

Good guess 😀

.. and I would like to see some 3D games even tho I do not have a 3D accelerator.

Then be sure to check out the Comanche-series. The first two are made for much older systems and should run perfectly, the third might be slow but playable.

Here's a list of every game I've played to completion on my Pentium since I started this hobby about 5 years ago:

Wing Commander I
Wizardry VI
Wing Commander II
Ultima Underworld I
Might and Magic 4: Clouds of Xeen
Realms of Arkania I
Inca
Wizardry VII
Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos
Ultima Underworld II
Ultima VII Pt. 2 Serpent Isle
Eric the Unready
Shadowcaster
Strike Commander
Privateer
Wing Commander III
System Shock
Wings of Glory
Pacific Strike
Realms of Arkania II
Crusader: No Remorse
Anvil of Dawn
Stonekeep
Dark Forces
Cybermage
Wing Commander IV
Crusader: No Regret

The release dates range from 1990 to 1996.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

cool thread, thanks for the link.

i wonder if it's the MP aspect of descent that made it #1 on the list..?

i like how the thread turns into a flamewar about OS/2 haha 😀

It will work on P1-100 ok and if you want to experiment a little check out the 1.20 patch allowing 3DFX Voodoo support lets say its not exactly stable but the acceleration would sure help.

I don't recommend the 3Dfx versions of both Blood and Shadow Warrior, the renderer isn't properly hardware-accelerated.

This. Basically they were done out of demand and how texture pixelization was the devil in 1997-98 when 3d cards were the hot thing. The way it worked doesn't render the game in true 3d but use them as a span driver and that's executed terribly as it's still practically a software renderer, only with way more thrash, just so textures can look only vertically filtered. Palette lookups are still very much in use, so there's no effectively greater color depth.

Also they don't support voxels, which Blood and SW had a lot of.

Using cache tricks, a P1 can run a wide variety of older speed sensitive games as well. Not as nicely as a PMMX, mind you, but still a nice capability.
