If i remember correctly, win95 had a little network activity Indicator icon that was located in the lower left next to the system clock and other running programs. This app would block when network traffic was going in/out. Was this a win95 app? Or did it stat with win98? And if it is a win95 app how can i start it?

or maybe it was just for dial up networking? but i think i remember it working for a nic card as well.

I know of LanLight - visual network monitor, but it says it required Win98. Maybe it works in Win95?

EDIT: The webpage states

This program will NOT run on Windows95.

Hmm, maybe i am thinking of dial up networking? but i'm almost sure i remember that little icon for the nic card as well.

Purpose:
The program is intended as a "replacement" for (or addition to) the Modem Icon that used to show up when you dialed into your ISP for Internet connectivity.

No, it was just an animated icon that ran in the bottom right systray next to the clock like this:

The animated icon above might have been the dial-up netwotk indicator back in the days. I recognizer that one as well.

However, there exists a tool called "iptest" that acts as LAN network indicator (like in the XP days):
