I'm having trouble finding old versions of this.

For D2X-Rebirth itself, I can't find any downloads at all. But apparently they're out there: D2X-Rebirth + Win98 joystick issues

DXX-Rebirth's old versions only list Windows support back to Win7: https://www.dxx-rebirth.com/download-archive-dxx-rebirth/

D2X-XL only specifies 32 bit Windows. Running that got me "Not a valid Win32 application." https://www.descent2.de/d2x.html

Any help?

For D1 and D2 for Windows 2000 you should use DXX-Rebirth 0.58.1
I do have a note that you may need to use the ws2_32.dll file from XP SP1 so if you don't want to copy that to the game directory you can try an older version of DXX-Rebirth

You can also use DXX-Retro for D1
1. Install DXX-Rebirth 0.58.1
2. Install d1x-retro-1.4.X6.Windows
