I just spent hours setting up that flash player and uploading MP3s so be nice. 😁

😉

I couldn't even set that up in a week's time so I'm mucho impressed

Those other SS recordings doesn't sound shabby... (Vivo & Opus)

hmm...the Doom recordings on those cards sound "spaced out" though
😜

I discovered that AWE32 can indeed play General MIDI mode in protected mode games if you are in Windows 9x! That means soundfonts no problem.

I originally thought that it could only do AWE32 mode in such games. In DOS that's how it is AFAIK.

Sometimes the AWE32 sounds weak but other times I like it! It has some weird/unique samples. Actually it sometimes sounds like SNES wavetable....

Oh, I tried to record my Vortex 2. While it would play in DOS games in Windows 9x, the instruments were mostly wrong for some reason. So I gave up on that idea.

Oh wow! That's nicely done!

I can provide SC-55mkII recordings of Dark Forces and Doom E1M1 if you also want to include these...

I love the AudioPCI! It blows the AWE out of the water and that at a much lower price with almost no fancy components on the card.

Well I got to say I hardly heard much about Ensoniq, but I like it more and more 🤣

Just missing the SSDB. I still have an extra one with your name on it... 😉

It's tempting but I think I might be Ensoniq-saturated 🤣

Aren't there two versions of that board? Do I already have both of the patch sets they used?

This is not really a new fact 😉.
It was always the way to go to get an AWE32 General Midi compatible (through Emulation) for DOS Games, since using AWEUtil in DOS is not really an alternative.
If you want to use SF, GM and Protected Mode Games the only option is through Win9x.
(I must admit I haven't tried Win 3.x much, but afaik there is no real GM Emulation for DOS windows?!?)

Yeah I probably discovered it a few years ago when I was first playing with AWE32. But I forgot about it. 😀

It really does make an AWE with 8+ MB RAM a good choice for games, if said games will run in Win9x.

I've added ESS ES1869 recordings. I've been curious about the ESFM synth.

The card is easy to setup. Basically you just plug it in and power up and you're good to go. It's PNP and my BIOS setup the resources perfectly. The card doesn't need any drivers to work with DOS games.

It's SBPro compatible and their synth seems to sound exactly like OPL3. Output signal quality of the card was good too, better than my real SBPro 2. My card is just a plain generic model. It also has a DB connector but there's not enough room to mount a regular size DB.

SBPro 2 is recorded as well for comparison.

I've made my first retro soundcard recording. I thought I'd try a soundcard which hasn't been tried yet. It's a GUS Max PCB 2.1, with 1MB, and I'm using the Pro Patch Lite 1.61 patches.

http://www.mediafire.com/?9d6yd1fp7s6fv6b (Doom Intro)

The Doom E1M1 music doesn't sound too great, IMHO. I also included the Doom intro music + effects. Inside doom setup.exe, I set the effects to GUS. Swaaye, if you want to take these recording(s) and put them on to your website, please do.

Hey RG100 why are they mono and only 80kbps OGG??? Can you make them better quality and in MP3? My flash player thing only plays MP3s and it's best not to go from one lossy format to another.

To encode I recommend exporting .wavs from Audacity and then using LAME to encode to mp3.
http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lamedrop.php (set VBR quality to 2)

If you want to keep a lossless version for archiving you can look up FLACdrop too. LAMEdrop can conveniently take FLAC files as input. Audacity can also make FLAC files in the beta version.
