Won a KXL-DN745A on eBay (well, made an offer lower than the asking price) with basically all of the entails/trimmings:

I know it's Adlib support, which my NEC laptop really needs as it only has WSS, which is only SB and no FM.

I think this is a Japanese import model (the manual and diskette have the Japanese language on it).

That's a nice card. You can also try the Doom and Wold3D mods I mentioned above. They should work with both Adlib and digital sound.

Indeed, I don't know of any Pentium laptops that did not come with on-board Sound Blaster compatible sound support. (If anyone reading this knows of any, please share!)

Easy. Toshiba Satellite 110ct come with no sound card and with Pentium processor. And it works fine with I/O Magic Tempo.

Anyways the market for this card was very slim as pentium laptops without sound card were rare.
Do you own a I/O Magic Tempo card? Can you make some pictures?

Hi! Thank you so much!
Can't wait to try them on my 32 bit laptop. The Roland SCP-55 deserves to be still active! She has a great sound!

Is there anybody which already tried Roland SCP-55 under Linux? If so, please, some advice on how to use the drivers?
Sorry, but I'm really a noob!

Did you read Install.eng.txt?
What kernel version are you using and on what hardware?
The linux driver here is for 2.0.x kernel series, working fine on 2.0.36, which is RedHat 5.2, so, really old.

You'll need to follow the instructions to patch a file, have the pcmcia services installed, and compile a new kernel with the options set as written in the readme...

I would install a NEW AV Linux MX Edition, which has a 5.10.52 kernel, so I'm not sure if I can use the card with this distribution.

What laptop will you use?
I guess you can start by installing the distro in question along with the kernel and modules sources, the dev utils needed, and start comparing between the old pcmcia-cs that's being patched and the pcmcia support included in the 5.10.52 kernel...

It's an old Compaq Presario X1000, 2 GB Ram, Intel Centrino 1.4 GHz.

I'm currently testing the KXL-DN745A on my Austin TFT 486 laptop (disabled the internal Sound card for testing purposes) and it gives me this:

Sound/CD-ROM Interface Card Driver Ver. 1.01 (960129)

for IBM Card Services 1.07 / 2.00

for SystemSoft Card Services 2.012.10

for Phoenix Card Services 2.00 / 2.01 / 2.10

ASPI Manager Mot Installed.

Device driver not found: 'PCMCIACD'.

I even tried the one for the CardTalk driver and that doesn't work either.

I'm using the English drivers since the Japanese one I cannot read at all (random letters and numbers).

Am I missing something here? In Windows for Workgroups 3.11, it doesn't work either.

Which driver do you use? IIRC aspis365.sys worked fine and did not require CS and SS. It is also possible to set port address and irq using /PORT= /INT= switches

Can you post your config.sys and autoexec.bat?

The ones I attempted to use are aspis365, aspismgr, and aspisdbk. All of which fail to initiate and my laptop uses the Databook CardTalk driver set. I changed the IRQs and port addresses to no avail, even leaving the thing blank does nothing.

Unfortunately, my NEC laptop died all of a sudden and cannot be used to test the drive out.

Do you have SystemSoft Socket and Card Services loaded in order to use aspimgr.sys?

For aspisdbk, you need to exclude a memory range in the emm386 line in config.sys, it's detailed in the readme, and try using another IO address.

And it gives me the error:
Databook CardTalk Not Loaded.
Driver Unloaded.

Reinstalling the drivers is out of the question since there aren't any installation programs on the hard drive (that came with the system) and on top of that, there aren't any drivers online for the PCMCIA slot.

My EXP CD-ROM drive works with it, however. Maybe I need to use the Japanese diskette to get it to work, eh?
