Alternative is so simply break off the excess on the Vibra brackets, as I did 😉

Hi, as promised, I will give you 3 boards as a gift, write to me.

Will do 😉 Seems like we briefly missed a chance, as I ordered 2 Pentagon 1024SL 2.2 boards from you 😉
I'll write you to your usual e-mail ... or do you prefer a PM on here?

Before I forget, I thought I'd mention one observation about the RC-1 design, even though it's not likely to be integrated (we did agree to no changes unless something is broken): C14 should ideally be a low-tolerance C0G/NP0 part. It seems that these are usually stocked in 1206 or 1210 form, and can be a bit of a challenge to solder onto the 0805 footprint while still making reasonable contact. A slightly larger set of pads would make life a little easier.

Sounds rather possible. Will look into that.

Is the project canned?

No, why ?

Confused by "This project is closed to previous donors for now"
"No exceptions, no need to ask via E-Mail/PM or the like.", perhaps.

It's not taking anymore contributors in exchange for cards, but the project is still going on.

Well, that's good to know.

This also piqued my interest.

Do I understand correctly that https://chipkin.ru/product/konstruktor-gusar-m/ (once available) would contain everything to solder a complete board together?

Are there any restrictions in shipping things to Europe currently?

I have the GUSar lite from that same site and it was a complete kit except for the DRAM, which was readily available on eBay for me. Shipping went pretty smooth and fast, but that was 1-2 months back. I am not sure about the current mailing situation. Note that I screwed up my card, because I am a bit clumsy when it comes to SMD. 😉 So some at least average SMD skills are necessary!

I wonder if anyone is offering to assemble these. I'm interested in having one, but my soldering skills are probably not sufficient.

The Lite was available assembled: https://chipkin.ru/product/sobrannaya-plata-gusar-lite/

Not anymore though. But maybe someone here on the forums can assemble it for you, for a fee? I would, if I got a bit better... but my chinese SMD training kits are already ordered. Might take some weeks to arrive though. 😁

Thanks, and thanks for the warning. I might have to order some Chinese stuff with SMDs as well then 😜

I got myself one of the cheap hot air stations from Ebay (~50€) a short time ago for another project and built it with that (one card with a stencil, one without - actually worked perfectly fine without, too).
Delivery was about 1.5 months (almost 1 month in customs). Soldering is a breeze this way (you just need to learn how much solder paste is necessary: where less is more) and it works perfectly.
Of course, to anyone their own ways, ymmv, etc.

Hope to be doing one or two more with shock__'s original in the future.

Yes, a hot air station is DEFINITELY on my wishlist. They are not that expensive anyway. At least the chinese ones... A Hakko is currently out of the question.

The Chinese ones are fine. My only complaint is that the hot air gun itself is not assembled the best... or rather, the fit of the handle to the main part of the nozzle is not tight enough. I had to use some electrical tape to make the fit tighter.

Maybe they have fixed that in the newer models. I bought mine a couple years ago and it hasn't given me any problems except for that.

Hello Root42,

After my experience with the Xi8088 and the TVGA9000i and CF sockets, having the right tools is the best. Having a kit with some SMD rework tools (tweezer, picks, etc), soldering whick and liquid flux, will help clean up the soldering bridges and make it nice and neat. Get a jeweler's loop to view the traces. Tack one corner down, make sure all is square, tack down another corner, don't use too much solder. Use your favorite method of drag soldering or go pin by pin with proper tip. Let the flux do its work.

Hot air stations are great, some even use plain ole heat guns or toaster ovens. I did start on a few starter kits with SMD, and so far, so good. Having the right rework tools available helped a lot.

Sincerely,

Berzerkula

You feel a whole lot more like you do now than you did when you used to.
