Where can one buy an mpu-401 midi interface card and do I need one to use with Roland MT32 ?

Depends on what kind of PC you are going to use with the MT-32.

If you are going to use an older PC from the 90s or late 80s era, then yes for sure you would need the MPU-401. If however, you are going to use it with a more modern computer (As I do), then you only need to pick up one of Roland's UMONE MKII USB-Midi interface. It works with the mt-32 just fine as an intelligent MPU solution. At least it does for me with Dosbox and ScummVM.

If you already got a soundcard you can always use SoftMPU for games that requires intelligent mode MPU-401, you just need an adapter from DB15 to MIDI DIN. There's also a couple of MPU-401 hardware projects going on here
