Maybe I missed something. How does the ordering process work?

I am interested in a bare PCB and/or a fully assembled one if I can't grab one. As the bare PCBs are offered now, I'd like to order one.

@ hard1k

If all parts (other than RAM and 4520) are included, I could also build my card by myself.
But then the ATMega and GAL would have to be programmed, I don't have a programmer 🙁.
I would buy the package also (2x) if you are programming the chips.

best regards
Patrick

As I wrote explicitly - bare PCB is bare PCB, no components are included other than the bare PCB itself and a metal bracket. You'll have to source, program and assemble everything by yourself.

ok, im waiting 😉

I think that's a misunderstanding.
I understood you to mean that you currently have no manpower to finish the cards.
That should only be an offer on my part to accommodate you.
I didn't want to pay a bare card or bare price.

Omg, the questionnaire! Why the hell did I used my private mailer for that... oh well, at least now I know how to setup SpamAssassin 😅

Thanks! Well, that could be the option if we miss our own deadlines once again, but I really hope it won't happen.

Hi hard1k,
I'm interested in buying 1 bare PCB, but I don't have enough posts to start PM. Can you send me a PM?

PM sent.

@ hard1k
Is there any other way to contact you? I would love to buy a PCB for myself and my friend. Unfortunately I am not authorized (yet) to start PM.

PM sent.

But did you fill it out? As soon as the orders for assembled boards are open, just tell me the mail you used for that, and we'll respect your discount 😀

I would be interested in a bare one if a parts list is provided!

BOM.pdf: download/file.php?id=107085
Assembly.pdf: download/file.php?id=107084

After having a second look at this I decided that I'll wait until orders for the assembled boards are open. Too many tiny soldering points for my shaky hands 😁

On the other hand you could buy a bare PCB, acquire the required parts and seek the help of a professional soldering service. Maybe that would help hard1k to refinance his investment.
Of course we'd prefer completed cards but the number is expected to be very limited.

Hey guys,

Good news - the boards have arrived, we'll start assembling them soon, so we're on schedule to start orders soon.

Regarding your questions:

Please find attached the exact BOM.

I'm missing the part reference in the BOM.
The single pieces big part is no problem but where do all the little different parts need to go?

First good eye there 😁
We're sending out the complete BOM with the reference column to those who order a bare PCB, along with the firmware package.
P.S. I've received your PM, will respond as soon as we prepare the SMD stencil file for you.

I'm making a part list for Mouser from the BOM but i already have €120 worth of parts for a single board.
So if you don't have experience to solder this yourself you pay €80 to hard1k to source a donor CT4520, SIMM, solder, program firmware and test the board for you.
Basically an assembled AWE64 Legacy is not a bad deal if count up all the cost if you would build it yourself.

That's how I see it too. If you take the development time and its costs into account, the price for an assembled board is really very fair. Even if a small surcharge is probably included in the PCB price. It should also not be forgotten that these are not mass-produced goods from Asia, but individually manufactured and tested products.

Exactly, that was the logic behind our pricing. Bare PCB prices include their part of R&D costs, and the assembled board is the bare PCB price plus the cost of parts plus CT4520 plus the work of a contracted assembler plus a small margin (as an incentive for you guys to buy bare PCBs and assemble them yourselves). Keep in mind that PCBs aren't that cheap, we're talking about a rather large 6-layer PCB, and we couldn't make a big order due to customs limitations (we're not a business after all). So, to sum up, what you are getting in both options is very close to the costs and return on initial investment.
