On 286 one can get success with 386EMU
http://survpc.tripod.com/emu386/
works also with CTCM
Good to know. Thanks for mentioning that. I'm also an user of EMU386, by the way. 😀
It helped me to run Dos-J on a 286 running western MS-DOS 6.22, which is interesting,
because by contrast a real DOS/V (MS-DOS/V 6.20) installation comes with EMM386 loaded by default.

I tried on 286 and it froze too so I assumed the driver is using 386 instructions - which is not surprising considering the original release date of the CS4235/36/37 chips - never really tried it again on another system lower than a 386 tbh
Will check it again on my V20 XT once I get it out of storage
Speaking of XTs and 386 instructions.. I hope we will see FPGA development reaching the point where/when
we will see hardware emulation of 8088/NEC V20 chips. And when we're at it, add some support for 286/386 instructions.
This would make the whole XT platform more usable as a whole. Maybe, perhaps maybe, someone is going further even,
and some bits of the Extended Memory find their ways into the design. So XTs can use HMA. Or run Windows 3.1. Or Minix 2. 😀
