Actually, that gave me a bit of an idea. Could UNISOUND support PCI sound cards that are also connected via SB-Link, like YMF7x4 cards or the very rare AWE64D? Sorry if it's a stupid question.

No, I'm sorry. That has nothing to do with ISA/ISA PnP

Then JazeFox recommended I basically tried all timing settings and the bottom line is: 1/2 1/3 1/4 1/5 don't work, 1/6 1/8 1/10 do.

keropi wrote on 2020-10-15, 08:54:

is it 66/6=11mhz the new setting?

Yes!

No. Your new timing is 33/6=5.5MHz. The CLKIN is the FSB frequency, not the internal core frequency of your clock-doubling processor. That's why 7.159 didn't work, because it is also above 5.5MHz.

@JazeFox

Could you tell me how you initialize the IDE Port on an AWE32?
Or do you have some hints, or Datasheets (CT1704)?
Maybe I can figure out how to activate the Sony CD-Rom Port on my CT2670V3.

Thank you, Dosenware.

Hey, just wanted to thank you for this driver! I was having issues with my ESS 1869 and it was part me being stupid, and part your driver is way better than the ESS config, thanks!

I'm glad it worked for you 😀

Hi,

Non-PnP SB cards don't need to configure IDE / CD-ROM settings by software because they're jumper-based. The only exception is the AWE32 CT2760v3. As I could investigate, only for that card, an extra software is required to configure the EEPROM settings required to enable the desired CD interface. It's "CONFIGCD.EXE" included in the package "2760r3cd.exe" officially released by Creative. It should be present in your original floppies. If you don't have them, you can download the SB/AWE compilation CD in Vogonsdrivers (caution, 722MB!), in the MISC folder: http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=13

Hello. I have non-pnp SB 16 Vibra, CT2600.

Is there any way to change the default midi port, which is 330? It doesn't seem to matter what numbers I type into a set blaster line for midi. It is always 330. Also, is it possible to change OPL3 default port 388?

Everything else is working, ok!

CT2600 is not a Vibra16 it is an SB Pro 2.0 model with a Mitsumi interface. These cards do not have an MSEL jumper, the MPU-401 is hard locked to 330h. Also, I don't think the OPL3 port can be changed on ANY Sound Blaster card.

[edit] My bad, it does say CT2800 on the card, not CT2600...

But anyway, it's good to know those ports cannot be changed.

The MPU port on the vibra can be changed, look for a jumper labeled MSEL as previously mentioned

Unfortunately, this card doesn't have a jumper for MSEL.

Ok, I installed creative drivers and diagnose.exe /s was able to change midi port to 300 with following set blaster line

SET BLASTER =A220 I5 D1 H5 T6 P300

So I think this is software configurable card, but I can now use diagnose.exe for this change.
This is actually nice because I don't need actual creative driver in config.sys, I can run diagnose /s after unisound in autoexec.bat.

@Grue

Thank you for pointing that. I'll check with my Vibra16s card and I hope to have it fixed for the next release.

Yes, it can be changed on PnP SB cards and it works. In fact, I added a new "Fxxx" setting recognition in BLASTER var to set it, some versions ago, when it was requested for the new AWE Legacy card.

Any plans to support the Terratec EWS 64 cards? The S uses a AD1816 and the L and XL use a Crystal 4236. All of them have the Dream SAM9407. I think Unisound should already activate the card, but minus the 9407 synth.

Yes, It's planned for a future release, no ETA though. If you have those cards and want to help with testing process, I'll contact you by PM in a few days/weeks.

I can help with the EWS64XL. I've built a machine around 4 Sound Cards (2 ISA /2 PCI) and If I could fully initialise the EWS64XL using Unisound it would be such a massive bonus. Will you be able to incorporate the uploading of the 94b banks?

Thank you very much, it works - sort of... now I'm stuck at 280h.

Setcard disables the CD Interface an is'nt able to change the cards Settings. It also mentions a "Factoryjumper" which is nowhere to be found.
ConfigCD can change the Cards Settings, but it sets the Baseadress to 280h - even if I select an other Address.

The Sony CD Interface is at Address 230h.
This Card and its Software seem to be slightly flawed. 😒

EDIT:
Now it works! 😁

I just had to left the Card unpowered for several Minutes - 10s obviosly wasn't enough.

Thanks again 👍

Update: the card acts a little weird, it needs a reset to set the base address - after the first Boot its set to 280h, after a reset its set to 220h. Slightly flawed...

Maybe the power-on reset generator circuit in your computer is flawed instead, so that the card does not properly reset until you push the reset button. You might want to try in a different mainboard to find out whether the card or the mainboard has to take most of the blame for that behaviour. As the power-on reset generator often uses the "power good" signal provided by the power supply, even reseating the power supply connector might fix your issue.

I tried latest version (v0.75e) with the following hardware: 486-class PC, ES1868 sound card + MIDI daughterboard:

  1. With the default settings (no "SET BLASTER", UNISOUND run without parameters) there is no digital sound in many games; and some apps (for example Duke3d setup) report IRQ conflict. I noticed that MPU IRQ assigned automatically (5) equals to SB IRQ, whilst running UNISOUND /R after official ESS driver reports IRQ=5, MPU IRQ=0. Setting "U0" in "SET BLASTER" for UNISOUND has fixed this issue.
  2. Under UNISOUND, some applications do not recognize presence of daughterboard. For example, in Descent setup test of Music Card=General Midi results in "System Failed to find hardware". There's no such issue with the official driver, but with UNISOUND I didn't find the solution.

Please let me know if I can help with any additional tests or information; I already tried to run dumpp but it's freezing on "Asking to read ESCD", not sure it's good for 486.
