Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has any tips on getting a Yamaha YMF743 sound chip working under DOS?
My Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 uses this (AC-XG).

Although it is a member of the WMF74X Family, it's not the same as the DS-XG that does have native DOS support.
Any ideas on this one?
Cheers

You might want to try this . https://www.techspot.com/drivers/downloadnow/ … 0f2f1bf8&file=1
No idea if this driver has any DOS support . It is a WDM driver for Windows 98 SE and Windows 2000

EDIT : Oh wait, is it already working in Windows ? Does it have any entries in c:\autoexec.bat or c:\windows\dosstart.bat ?

EDIT2 : I am not convinced the YMF743 has any pure DOS compatibility. The Windows 95 drivers I found ( http://www.fujitsu.com/downloads/COMP/fpcap/d … in95/audw95.exe )do not come with any *.exe files and the datasheet ( https://www.datasheetarchive.com/pdf/download … e=M&term=ymf743 ) does not mention any Sound Blaster compatibility . Even the screenshot you posted mentions Sound Blaster compatibility in a dos box only (i.e. when running under Windows ) .

Thanks for the tip regardless.
Yeah Windows was the easy part. I've tried a few drivers from Toshiba as well as Yamaha.
Apart from a test with the other YMF family drivers, there are no other Autoexe entries.

As opposed to the YMF7x4 family (see YMF724 datasheet, for example : https://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/v … AHA/YMF724.html ), the YMF743 does not have a legacy audio block. It does not even seem to have an FM synthesizer !

Yeah that's what I suspected. Despite the age of the laptop. It seems to have crossed past that timeline of DOS support.

Thanks guys for your help! 😀

Maybe you can get a PC CARD sound card that has some DOS support . It probably will not come cheap, though .

Sadly I can't find any of those. I think this one will be limited to Win98 Games!
