I just bought my first Roland gear. It is what would appear to be an old version, it doesn’t have a head phone connector. When checking the ROM version though, I found that it is version 2.00. I thought 1.07 was the highest version for the old unit?

Would this unit be considered a new version?

For compatibility, what’s the downside of 2.00 compared to 1.07?

I see there are 1.07 ROMs out for sale. Are they placed in a socket being easily changed, or does it require soldering? Could this unit even be downgraded below 2.00?

interesting... can you dump this 2.00 rom?
maybe open the unit and take a pic of the mobo to see what is going on

Just checked and it has the demo songs. From what I understand only the new version has those?

well the space is there on the pcb for the jack. its definitely a 'new' mt32, not 'old' mt32. for whatever reason they did not solder the jack on.

The casing itself is the 'old' version, hence no jack.

So, in theory, you could just drill a hole in the rear and solder on a jack? You would then have a complete MT-32 "new" with its headphone jack.

Quite likely.
