Thanks, so much appreciated!

recorded! nothing special used just pcmidi->win10-line-in with no fx applied
hope it helps!

edit:
just for clarification, no EQ preset is loaded on Yucatan and X2GS has a stock EQ preset flashed, not sure what dreamblaster used in the early version I have as I have not made any updates yet.

Personal opinion (after all, the sound/music is a matter of personal taste), I must admit that I like more how Yucatan FX sounds
..but this is a personal opinion and does not detract from the extraordinary work done by Dreamblaster for his latest extraordinary work 😉

Both great but personally I find the X2GS to be easier on the ears - once the ESS based module is ready to order I'm going to have a couple of beers for courage start adding things to my cart 😃

I wouldn't say "exactly like" but "very very similar" , there are some differences
but for gaming usage you might get the odd weirdness or two but 99% of the time the result will be great

Can the differences or 'weirdness' be described?

It would also be great to hear this Roland bank A/B against an SC-55 in complex GS tunes like some of the Descent tracks.

Game01.mid usually separates the men from the boys!, in terms of ability to execute all the complex nuances.

Personally, I would really like to know how the X2GS with the GS soundbank handles the Waterworld track in Duke Nukem 3D . This one happens to be one of my favorite tracks in the game and, unfortunately, the only one that sounds really off to me on my Yucatan workalike ( Diamond Monster MIDI 4MB with GMS963200-B ) due to one particularly aliased sample .

Thanks for this, really appreciate it.

Two observations:

1. YucatanFX sounds a bit too boomy whereas the X2GS sounds a bit too boxy. Of course, the X2GS has an EQ that can be set up to make it better
2. The stereos are reversed. From memory I'd say YucatanFX has reversed stereo. That is a known bug though right?

Some more demos :

Listen to it, especially Whack-a-Rat !
I do love the sound personally, deep basses, good punch,...
It is easy to tweak a preset according to your taste,
maybe making it sound a bit 'thinner' would be a good idea, if your speakers or headset are rumbling by the audio violence..

From my experience, it's best to record while in-game. Some games have special optimizations for certain hardware which might not be apparent when playing .mid files externally.

As an example, Duke3D's Grabbag sounds different when played from the game's own setup menu (music test) compared to what you get in the actual game (during the intro).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is the best reproduction I've heard outside of a Sound Canvas. It sounds great on many different modules, but most fail to reproduce that stabby sound from 0:30 (I'm not sure what instrument it is). Usually it ends up too clean or too quiet. The X2GS does it well.

Does the X2GS fit into the enclosure made for the X3M by any chance? (I guess it doesn't since the audio ports seem to be on the side instead of the front.)
If it does not: Will there be one for it (for external usage)?

there will be no specific X2GS box for external use. it is not intended to be used as musical instrument

technically, it fits in X2BOX : https://www.serdashop.com/X2BOX
or in the chillbox : https://www.serdashop.com/CHiLLBOX (with chill interface card)

Looking at the patch list, is this essentially a wavetable of the SC-88?

Officially i cannot call it like that

Let me ask differently then: am I correct that these are the same waveforms or at least the same patch list?
