Hi everyone,
How's it going?
I'm building a computer around an 486 ISA SBC using an ISA backplane.
This board has only one IDE port, which means that I can have only one master and one slave drives.
I'm also using an IDE to SD adapter as my hard drive, which doesn't have a master/slave switch and can be annoying to get working with multiple drives on the same ide channel, therefore I'm having trouble with CD-rom drives. (Also, the SBC doesn't seem to like a lot of the CD-rom drives I connect to it).
So I was watching a Phil's computer lab video about the ESS AudioDrive ES1868F which he casually managed to get a cd-rom drive running using the drivers he has in his DOS starter pack, so I went on ebay and bought one straight away because I don't really need to boot from the CD-rom, I just need to read cds from DOS and Windows.
Here's the card:
Now, for some reason I can't get a cd-rom drive to be detected when connected to the sound card ide. I tried it with Phil's driver, I tried it with the default Windows 98 boot disk driver and on Windows 95, I did manage to get the ide interface from the sound card to be detected and the driver installed but there's no sign of the cd-rom drive.
I don't know what to do anymore =/
Btw, this is my first posts, I never needed to create an account here because I can usually find my answers without even asking, which is pretty awesome. I'm happy to finally join the community though and I hope I can be helpful as well.
