I installed my AT6800W using the drivers I found here: https://www.helpjet.net/Fs-34638782-17890554-54863026.html as normal AZT2320 drivers didn't work as this card is a sound & modem combo.
The drivers installed fine in Windows 98SE, but they didn't create the AZTPNP.CFG file properly for DOS configuration, so I created my own based on the one that worked for Phil's AZT2320 based card here: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/hp-mm-pro-16v-a.html.
This got the Sound Blaster Pro support, MIDI, joystick, and modem initialized and working in DOS, however Windows Sound System doesn't work.
My AZTPNP.CFG is as follows:

[CD Path]
CDPATH=C:\AZAUDIO\DRIVERS

[PNP]
SDMA=0
BYTE0=7
BYTE1=54
VID0=AZT3011

[DEVICE_01]

HardwareID=\AZT3011_DEV0002\FFFFFFFF

[DEVICE_02]

Class=MEDIA
Port0=220

Port2=534

DMA1=5

[DEVICE_03]
Description=3Com Windows Modem TI
HardwareID=\AZT3011_DEV0004\FFFFFFFF
RealHwID=ENUM\ISAPNP\AZT3011_DEV0004\FFFFFFFF
Class=MODEM
Port0=0110
IRQ0=10

[Hardware Setting]
DevNum=10

[WIN PATH]
winPath=C:\WINDOWS

[END]

I've also tried initializing the card using UNISOUND as well, and it does say that WSS is initialized at 534, but still none of the games I have that support WSS work.

Any ideas?

Interestingly enough I have the same issue. But I only tried with unisound. I used the switch /cwss to switch to wss mode but no game works

Remark: I will try to sell the card anyway as SB sample quality is catastrophic

I also had issues using WSS mode in DOS with an Aztech sound card that uses AZT2316 chip, the initialization is quite incomplete. One workaround was running Inertia Player 1.22 with WSS configured, after exiting everything else worked fine until I switched back to SBPro mode.

However, I don't know if this works with the sound cards containing the AZT2320 chip, but I won't be surprised if this is the case.

Yep, the sound quality in SBPro mode isn't the best due to not having a low-pass filter like the real thing, which is used to prevent aliasing. This is also true with many SB compatible clones.

I just tried the latest UNISOUND v0.80a with the /XWSS switch and it worked with my AT6800W. Descent worked perfectly. Tyrian2K detected WSS for the first time in setup but didn't actually play any sound effects in-game.

That's good enough for me right now, I'll do more testing later.

I just tried with the Sierra games. But they won’t recognize the wss.

Happy new year

I got best results when setting the DMA channel to 0 for WSS stuff.

Hm. I don’t even know how to set any wss specific irqs with unisound. Just the standard sb ones. Still have to test the inertia hint though

In ISETUP, it does appear as "Windows Sound System" after selecting "Select Sound Device".

Strange if it didn't appear in your case. 😐

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried DMA 0 and now WSS works perfectly in Tyrian 2K.
