I just acquired an AGP card with a molex power connector. It draws more power over the 12V rail. Does one need to use a Molex to 6-pin/8-pin adapter to ensure it goes over the right rails on the PSU? or can I just plug it in anywhere a free molex exists. Does it make a difference?

I am connecting a Radeon X800 Pro to a Corsair RM750X.

Oh man, I've had quirky issues with AGP card and molex power connectors. It just depends on the card. IMO, can't go wrong with native molex.

GeForce 6800 Ultra (2 molex), they seem to only like the native molex more. I tried a SATA > Molex, and no go.
Radeon X800 series, I've used the SATA > Molex just fine.

That is good info to know. Thanks for the tip.

I ended up connecting it straight to a molex connector, and it worked fine.

I read a lot here, which helped as well:
