Hell, didn't know what else to put down for a title. The cards are (2) Creative 3D Blasters Voodoo 2 SLI on a P3 850/100 512mb based system with DX7 with latest
3DFX reference drivers #3.02.02.

Noticed during install of 1st card got a message "file installing is older than what is already on drive" something or another so I defaulted to the "newer" version. This threw me since I didn't know Win98SE had any 3DFX drivers. This might've been a mistake but the 1st card worked ok. Second card installed without any messages but noticed in 3DFX setup screen the advanced section looked "garbled" hard to make out but the 24mb was there. In games there is a faint vertical "overlay" that wasn't there with the 1st card by itself. Is this a drivers issue or a bad card? Hope it's not the latter, waited so long to get a voodoo fix!

In windows your voodoo's are not used , only when in direct3d or glide program. So it seems like there is a problem with the ''normal'' vga card?

And did you hook up de voodoo cards correctly?

The primary gpu is a Abit GF3 64mb and it's working fine in the games I tried - Incoming, Rogue Squadron and Quake2.

I'm leaning on uninstalling the latest ref. drivers and using the original creative drivers and if that fails try the fast voodoo iterations. Could the 512mb ram be causing problems? Maybe falling back to 256 will help I don't know. Other things I read on from the 3DFX zone site: turn off v-sync, go back to DX6, use different "tweakers".

Regarding tweaking: Is there certain setting adjustments most you out there make on the gamma stuff and etc. ?

Please keep the ideas coming, need all the help I can get, thanks!

I attached some pics showing the "vertical overlay" I'm seeing with my V2's. During testing I've found out both cards have the problem in the (2) games I tried in glide mode:

Incoming - each card alone shows it along with SLI mode regardless of high/low graphic settings.

Rogue Squadron - SLI shows it in 1024 x 768 but not in 800 x 600
Each card by themselves show it in 640 x 480 but not in 800 x 600 (weird)

Tried turning off V-sync and ramping up monitor refresh rate to 75 to no avail. Don't know of anything else to try besides uninstalling the latest ref. drivers and trying the others.
On that note which drivers should I try next? The originals, Fast Voodoo and all it's iterations?

Nope, but didn't even think to consider that. My GF3 has DVI and my monitor has DVI and VGA so maybe I can do away with the pass thru and test it. Thanks for the tip!

Try using a direct cable to the card just to check if it is the passthrough cable. However, this seems more likely to be a scaling thing with the monitor to me. Is there an auto adjust feature on the monitor's options? If so, try giving it a go when in-game.

I've been using an old 17" dell flatscreen with VGA only but have an 24" Asus with DVI & VGA, will check see if it can auto adjust - will post my findings later.

I get these lines on my old Dell 19" flat screen with certain cards at certain resolutions as well.

EDIT: Also, the message about overwriting a file that is newer is probably related to the riched20.dll file that is used for displaying text on the 3dfx settings window. I posted about this recently when someone else had this issue. It should be unrelated to anything that happens in-game. To fix the garbled text, just replace the file with the one from the Voodoo 2 driver package.

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Hooyah!!! you hit the nail on the head man! Ditched the pass through cable and connected to my Asus monitor via separate vga/dvi hookups, sli works great no lines! Thank you!!!

Glad you brought that up, the garbled text is bugging the crap out of me being the "ocd" guy that I am!
