Hi.

While I was playing a game the last weekend I heard an explosion close to me.
At first I don't knew the source of sound and I still playing for a couple of minutes.
Finally I decide to power off the PC and I found this...

Explosions everywhere.

I think that is mandatory to replace all capacitors.
Now I understand the blink of screen from time to time.

Few months ago I purchased this graphic card and in a short time begins to blink but sporadic. Probably a capacitor was already damaged.

At the moment it's replaced by NVidia GeForce 6200... 😢

The legendary Sacon FZ series strikes again! This series is universally bad and guaranteed to fail.

Replace them all, every single one of the surface mount capacitors with the vent lines on top.

If your card can currently post and partially work, this is a good sign that a fully recapped card will work wonderfully.

Thanx for the warning! I checked mine (identical Galaxy card) to find out it has a bursted cap also! (a 6,3v 1500uf)

I have been searching for a very long time to find one in my country and benched it shortly to check it was working and added it to my collection after that. That was couple of months ago. Never had an issue with the benchmarks so I didn't expect this.

2 weeks ago I found a boxed XFX 7950GT AGP and bought it cheap. Was very happy to buy it and while testing it all of a sudden started striping 😢
Tried everything including the heatgun, full recap, oven trick nothing worked and after some attempts the card never posted again (killed it somehow). At least got the box, now waiting for another one to come along..

So I feel lucky that I can save this one!

Weird thing btw: The 6,3v 330uf cap that is bursted on yours is a 6,3v 1000uf on mine? My card does not have a 330uf cap at all actually.

Horrible picture but you can see the values on mine.

Yes, the card works at startup but only for a few seconds. Is not dead 😁

Recapping will be the first repair for new year.

Thanks meljor, very interesting.
It's true.

Maybe both are the same model but different revision.

This is the list of capacitors in my card:

  • FZ89 1500uf 6.3V (x5).
  • FZ78 470uf 16V (x2).
  • 6E CZ 330uf 16V (x3).

I have been searching it and I found a kits of caps with variety of values but none with all I need.
Can I substitute 1500uf 6.3V by 1500uf 6V, for example?

Sorry, but I have no idea about this 😢

1500uf 6.3V - https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/aluminium-capacitors/0568569/
470uf 16V - https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/aluminium-capacitors/0568767/
330uf 16V - https://au.rs-online.com/web/p/aluminium-capacitors/0568698/

The specs are a bit higher than the original FZ range, but the originals probably never properly meet their spec anyway.

Thanks a lot canthearu!

I've created a list to recap this GPU and another list to recap a HP Pentium 4 mainboard. 😊

The size of one of the capacitor is not correct but capacitance and voltage yes. Can this cause the problem? 😕

Thanks meljor.
The PSU is new (Corshair VS550), I bought it a few months ago. I think that the problem is not in PSU.

Before I plug the card in this PC I was tested it in other PC but only in 2D because there are not installed any 3D games in it.

I will to replace the incorrect capacitor and check all the soldering. 😈
I hope that no exist permanent damage. Meanwhile I am using a FX6200.
