Trying to run some games on my old XP machine and I can't seem to get games to output 75hz. They always output 60hz at 1024x768.

I have my Windows set to run at 75hz, why isn't it outputting at 75hz in game?

This only happens on some games, but even then know that they're supposed to be outputting 75hz if my monitor is set to 75hz. Any help?

That was a normal behavior in 2000/XP. Use any refresh-rate fixer tool to overcome this.

This is what I used back then: http://m.majorgeeks.com/files/details/nvidia_ … h_rate_fix.html

Doesn't seem to be working for me. Was there ever an updated devices file?

Not sure for this tool. I had GeForce2 when I used it. However, I had also one PC with ATI card and had a universal tool there. There were refresh rate fixers that just detected any resolution change with 60Hz and immediately did another change with the right refresh rate. I forgot the name though.

Make sure your monitor profile matches... the generic one only supports 60Hz at 1024x768

How do I know if I'm using a monitor profile?

EDID (Plug and Play Monitor) should do that.
But maybe the graphics card or the monitor are just too weak to make higher refresh rates.
What graphics card and monitor do you use?

I just don't get how thats possible. I can output 75hz on the desktop. Especially since its a 7900 GS, pretty sure its capable of outputting games at 75hz (and it does, half life 2 outputs 75hz).

Didn't see your question on the gpu and the monitor 🤣

GPU is a Geforce 7900 GS, monitor is my ASUS WX238H.

Both a direct connection and through an HDMI splitter have the same problem. Makes no sense since it does support 75hz at 1280x1024, 1024x768, etc., and it does output 75hz on the desktop.

actually its unusable with a direct connection, something is causing it to be zoomed in with the mouse and stuff. installing an older driver didn't work, and of course it didn't fix my 75hz issue. ugh, i don't know what to do at this point.

No driver will help you with this. As I said already - This was a common issue on NT-based systems, which (unlike 9x) reported 60Hz instead of the highest/selected one when an app asked for the 'optimal' refresh rate. Just google for "fix refresh rate windows xp" and you will find plenty of tools that were designed to overcome the issue.

Wasn't there a setting in DXDIAG.exe to force the refresh rate ? (last tab)

This also does not work I suppose ?

doing that fixed it, thanks!

now i'm kinda running into another issue where i can output 1280x1024 at 75hz yet i can't output 1280x1024 at 60hz, nvidia control panel just says that its not supported and if i do force it to output that it just outputs it scaled to 1680x1050 with no way to turn it off 🤣

but that's probably for another thread, i don't wanna spam the forums though so
