I would honestly just check those traces that I and NyLan pointed out as well as the capacitor I mentioned.

I’ve fixed far worse and ended up with perfectly stable and usable cards. My Voodoo 5 5500 PCI was bought faulty (missing a handful of capacitors), and my GeForce 256 DDR was bought “working” but was DOA. Turns out that was missing 11 components (resistors, inductors and capacitors), and I fixed that using reference images on VGAmuseum. The seller refunded me without wanting a return, so I ended up with a free, working GeForce 256 DDR!

If the traces don’t show continuity, then ask the seller for a refund. If he refuses (or the card was listed as “for parts or not working”) then at least you have a head start in troubleshooting.

Thanks, will check.
I just reviewed the seller's images (attached), and those potential damaged spots were already on the card (both the scratch and the backs of the RAM chips).
So it isn't transport damage.
Guess I should have been more thorough ...

Edit: he claims that he tested the card with Counter-Strike (v1.3) under Windows 2000. Is that even a Glide game? Is it possible that his primary card was doing the 3d-acceleration?

try switching your monitor's cable from the top board to the bottom one.

Progress report:
I had the card checked by the local electronics guy.
- c150 was fine
- that "scratch" wasn't a scratch, continuity on the traces was fine
- the pads on the back of that RAM chip were in contact - now fixed

Now the card behaves differently - when I run a Glide game, the PC (currently an MSI 6119 with a Pentium II 350) restarts. However, it does the same thing with another working Voodoo 2.
So, I'll let you guys know in a few days when I test it with another motherboard.

Edit: Nope. Still the exact same thing - no image. Tested on a Pentium 4.

Isn't the capacitor, C70, on the back close to the ram chip broken/missing?

Good spot! That should indeed be present on both 8MB and 12MB cards.

As I understand the only way to know is to unsolder one of the others and measure it to find out.
You could take a very close look and see how long is the missing smd by measuring the traces left on the solder and unsolder one of the smd of the unpopulated ram chip areas, using it as a spare part (replace later).

As they should be the same for all it's a good guess to see if it works.

Even after putting C70 "in its place" (it wasn't missing, just not making contact with one of the pads), still no image.
The card is already on its way back to the seller.

Thanks for all you help, guys.

Too bad, I'd have tried to replace it with a new one.
But I understand it was getting too long to solve.

@vetz: Yes, multiple times.

@Nexxen: C70 (100nf 25V) turned out to be fine.

I really couldn't think of anything else to check/try and the seller was willing to take the card back, so I sent it.
If he manages to fix it, I'd still take it.

Here is an image of the card after repairs / before sending it back.

There's a lot to check and it could also be a bad ram chip...
Well, as you say, the seller is taking it back 😀

If anything turns up keep us updated to help future voodooists.
