What have you tried so far, and what makes you think you did not succeed?

I've tried installing the drivers both automatically and manually (by selecting different types of Radeon 9600 Series card). Each time I end up with the default 640x480 16 colors resolution and an error message.

Hey there!

I am deseperately trying to install drivers for this video card: https://www.ebay.fr/itm/333759696360
(presumably a Radeon 9600 Pro 256 Mb) for windows 98 using the Catalyst 6.2 drivers without success...

Could someone help me to identify the card and hopefully find the proper drivers?

What mainboard do you have and have you installed appropriate chipset drivers for it ?

I have a ASRock P4i65G motherboard with an Intel 865G chipset, coupled with a p4 2.8 ghz and 512 Mo Ram.
I am using Windows 98 SE and I have indeed installed the chipset drivers and I assume these are the right ones as I have successfully used the computer with many other AGP graphic cards (radeon 9200, NVidia Geforce FX 5500, Geforce 6600 GT). All of them have been recognized without issue (agp x8). This one is the only one that resists...

It sounds like you are doing everything right . If other cards, both older and newer work, your 9600 may be defective in some way. Or maybe you have hit a strange incompatibility . Do you have another motherboard to test this video card ?

Okay, but wouldn't it be useful to know where you found the drivers you are trying to use?

If it comes down to that, I would suggest testing the computer with a live Linux distribution (either on a bootable CD or a bootable USB drive).

I would be inclined to try the Win9x Omega drivers, but I'm not sure what exactly the appropriate version would be. I think https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2019 … ivers-2637.html might work - although the page says it supports up to the Radeon 9250, the screenshots of the installation dialogs suggests it supports later cards.

Gentlemen, I am more and more puzzled...
I did boot on a live Xubuntu 18.04 and the card worked perfectly fine, it displayed a crystal clear 1280x1024 image and was listed as a radeon 9600 RV350 is what I find when displaying the list of PCI devices: https://ibb.co/6W970cr

I tried the omega drivers which seems indeed to support the 9600, but same error, device not found.
Soooo frustrating...

Do you have any other unusual software installed? Does the Catalyst Control Center work correctly? (I remember that certain overzealous firewalls can prevent it from functioning.)

No, nothing fancy in here, I just put that old thing together to enjoy good old windows 98 gaming. Damn, I forgot how far we went since this time.
Catalyst Control Center does not work at all, probably because the card is not recognised properly?

I also vaguely recall that it requires the .NET 2.0 runtime.
