I saw this card up for sale on an auction site. It is listed as an Geforce 8800 Ultra.

However, it does not look like an 8800 Ultra to me. The shroud looks like a fairly common 8800 GTX, which may be an OEM model, but I'm not sure.

The back of the card has a sticker that does say it's an 8800 Ultra. However, on the shroud of the card, there is sticker with the model number DCV-00187-N4-GP. When I lookup this number online, it shows it to be an 8800 GTX.

I also Googled the 8800 Ultra and I could not find any 8800 Ultra's with this type of shroud.

What's going on here? Did someone put an 8800 GTX fan shroud on an 8800 Ultra PCB? I'm not sure why anyone would do this, unless the shroud on the 8800 Ultra broke.

Or, did someone put false stickers on the back of the card to make it look like an 8800 Ultra so that they could sell it for more money?

I'm suspecting that this is the Dell variant of the 8800 Ultra. The retention bracket has been removed, but Dell would specify a GTX heatsink in place of the Ultra heatsink. NW458 is the part number for their 8800 Ultra.

What's going on here? Did someone put an 8800 GTX fan shroud on an 8800 Ultra PCB?

There are 3 PCB variations in total. "GTS" PCB, which is used both for original 8800GTS and Quadro cards, "GTX" PCB, which is used only on GTX/Ultra cards and "Quadro FX" PCB which is used on Quadro FX 5600 monstrosity with 1.5 Gb VRAM.
Ultra cards were using better memory and different revision of G80 chips (A3), which were capable to work at better clocks.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

The part number on the fan shroud is DCV-00187-N4-GP. That seems to come back as a 8800 GTX. That's why I'm thinking that the fan shroud is not original to this PCB.

It's probably a Dell OEM out of a XPS or Alienware system. For some reason Dell wanted to use the GTX cooler instead of the ultra cooler for their 8800 ultra cards. If it's a good price and it's tested and known to be working card grab it.
