I've always been curious about SDD but I've never found a reason to use it. The intersection of SVGA fast-paced games and MSDOS was really small to my knowledge, so I never understood how SDD would be a benefit. The only games I can recall playing at the time in SVGA would be Theme Hospital and Transport Tycoon Deluxe which are both slow paced management games. Decades later I've finally got a computer and the software to try things out.

On my Pentium MMX 200 with S3 Virge 325 PCI, Duke Nukem 3D at 800x600 runs at about 13 FPS on average. With SDD 6.53 active, it improves to 25-30 FPS!

I didn't notice much improvement playing Quake at higher resolutions.

What games have you tried where SDD/Univbe is a must?

i prefer just going with S3VBE20 - does the same thing with less baggage and loads quicker too. S3SPDUP can also be loaded to speed up banked modes, if necessary. it's slightly odd that a virge wouldn't come with VBE 2.0 already though.
