Toshiba T4700CT, with 1MB video card.

When flash or similar effect happens, I see dots on the screen. This also happens on transitions between screens. Same story on external monitor. Take a look:

Is there any tool to check video memory on such an ancient machine? I only know VMT but it's for newer PC's

This looks like palette update "snow", which is perfectly normal occurence on many video chipsets.

Indeed, and the WD 90C24 (which is what is in this laptop) is apparently one of those chipsets .

https://web.cs.elte.hu/local/Linux-bible/X-No … book/node8.html suggests that this "snow" can be worked around by tweaking timings .

Maybe tweaking/tuning the CRTC registers slightly (assuming the game/app does not re-init those at launch) could be a potential workaround . Maybe somebody else who is more experienced/qualified than I am can chime in on potential feasibility and maybe even a HOWTO .

This is something that you won't see on most old laptops, and even if there is such an option it is only nearest neighbor stretch which will look pretty awful due to uneven pixels. Smoothing filters etc. came fair bit later.
