Hi,
I got a radeon 9550 AGP card on ebay that was sold as working but I am getting no video output and the BIOS beeps indicate no graphics card detected.
An ATI Rage 128 works fine.

The card is AGP universal keyed (I know quite a few 9550s are 1.5v only but it seems some companies such as sapphine made 3.3v compatible versions)
This card is marked as C3D 6055 which appears to be a Connect 3D Radeon 9550 card but I can't find much info about this card onlien that is contemporary - just specs on reseller sites that may or may not be accurate.

Before I ask the seller if they really tested it and suggest the card is a dud, have people got 9550s working on a 440bx board?

Card images attached

Thanks

best bet would be to try it in another board.

tbh one of these cards is gonna be bottle necked in a 440bx board. those cards are 4x or 8x were most 440 boards only have a 2x slot. ud be better off getting something like a rage card or a radeon 7000 or something in the geforce2 series.

problem with ebay is most sellers that say stuff works what they really mean is it worked 20 years ago when i stopped using it and upgraded but its been sitting in a draw for the past 15-20 years and who knows now.

AFAIK, practically all Radeon 9550 are not 3.3V AGP compatible and many of them are improperly keyed in a way that would suggest 3.3V AGP compatibility that is not actually present .

EDIT : I would be almost willing to bet that your card would work fine in 1.5V AGP capable board (unless running it in a 3.3V AGP slot managed to kill it) .

EDIT2 : The built by ATI Radeon 9550 is specced as requiring an AGP 4X (1.5V), 8X (0.8v) or Universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (4X/8X) , so a third party would have had to go off the beaten path to make a product that differs from the reference design in order to support 3.3V AGP .

EDIT3: BUT, according to https://web.archive.org/web/20070208202547/ht … duct.php?pid=40 3.3V is supported by your card . Whether that information is accurate is another question .

From my observation, these 9550 cards more often than not had external power connector to avoid problems with old motherboards.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

Thanks, that link is very helpful - does indeed suggest card should work (assuming the manufacturer told the truth 😉)

I don't have another board to test the card in - hence why I was wondering if others had experience of this combination 😀 . I know it will be bottlenecked with my 1.1GHz celeron, but it is just for fun!

I saw a few Universal AGP Radeon "9550" selling on ebay, and suspected they were actually mislabeled 9200, which are supposed to be universally keyed. Even that label on the back of your card looks sketchy, like some seller might have printed it himself and slapped it on.

I would recommend testing it in a newer AGP system to see if it works. Or take off the heatsink, and see what the actual GPU is.

Hmmm yah, now you mention it, that RAM looks more like 8500LE stuff, so potentially early 9100 even. Would be expecting BGA Idathunk.

edit: Nope, guess there's DIL RAM on other 9550s, well there are more of them around apparently like https://picclick.co.uk/Connect3D-Ati-Radeon-9 … .html?refresh=1 but this seller thinks it's a 9600 https://www.ebay.com/itm/174815781872?chn=ps& … kevt=1&mkcid=28

I should be able to run some quick tests on P3B-F (440BX) and something that is AGP 1.5V capable .

This comes up for Radeon 9800 fairly often too. Some do work and some don't, and the keying can be incorrect. Fun.

The older Radeon 9700 and 9500 do work.

And presumably the 8500LE?

I've heard someone running this card (although not the LE version) around on a 440BX motherboard without any problem.

The latest card that I successfully ran on such chipset ran was an nVidia GeForce 6200 (NV44 and from XFX), but that was many years ago.

I haven't heard of any Radeon 8500 / 9100 cards that are 1.5v-only. The Radeon 9550/9600/9800 problems come up with cards not made by ATI though so anything's possible. Lots of cheapo 3rd party Radeon cards out there.

GeForce 6200 came in a lot of varieties too.
