I tried drivers 2.18, the newest official ones, I'm not sure they even installed, next I tried older ones and they shown control panel with missing dll file, now I have no control panel and no installed driver, or one from 1998 from creative and Win98SE starts with error about missing ctv2ps.crl. Not to point out the newest installer doesn't leave files in Windows/TEMP but does detect card.

How can I fix it? I tried combo with PCI S3 Trio64 4MB and AGP GeForce 4200 TI 128MB.

Once I managed to make control panel to show info about card itself with missing dll. Card works, removed from fully working PC, just again I feel unlucky configuring it. 🤣

This doesn't help, at the start of system, after installing drivers from Setup.exe I have: error in 3dfxv2ps.dll. Missing entry: UpdateRegSettings.

I don't think this time I'll manage to make this work.

Edit: For some reason drivers called 3dfx Voodoo2 V3.02.02 work for me. Maybe installed DX7 was causing the problem? And do I lose anything using non 3D Blaster drivers?

Only the latest (3.02.02, requiring DX7 to be installed) or second to last (3.03.00, despite the number it isn't the latest one) 3Dfx Voodoo2 reference drivers works on faster systems.

The 3D Blasters drivers are older and you won't be missing that much except the option for setting vsync and overclocking the card without modifying the Windows registry.

Are you using this card in a motherboard with a VIA chipset?

Yes, mobo is Biostar M6VCI.

So I guess that's normal? I noticed installing newest 3D Blaster 2.18 drivers do not change year in device manager (should be 1999 and stays 1998) also they look like are not loaded, the newest reference ones have gliched info about card (badly adjusted letters) but I don't think that's the issue. I have 1GHz processor.

And I guess I'm good to go, right? I don't really need overclock anything as Voodoo2 is more like glide loader as I'm using GeForce 4200Ti 128MB for DirectX and OpenGL. And I get rid off of startup error: error in 3dfxv2ps.dll. missing entry: UpdateRegSettings by simply removing bad entry with regedit.

Anyway, what does mean 'reference driver'? And will it allow SLI? Another CT6670 12MB on the way. 😀

And system info says I have 4/2/8MB RAM, is it really 12MB card?

Reference drivers are the generic ones written by 3Dfx and SLI works as long they aren't mismatched. For the latter there are workarounds but you will be using two of the same model so it won't be necessary.

Don't forget getting the proper ribbon SLI cable. 😁

For a Voodoo2 with 12MB RAM it is usually partitioned like this:

  • 4MB for the FBI
  • 4MB per TMU

VIA C3 Nehemiah 1.2A @ 1.46 GHz | ASUS P2-99 | 256 MB PC133 SDRAM | GeForce3 Ti 200 64 MB | Voodoo2 12 MB | SBLive! | AWE64 | SBPro2 | GUS

Yes, that Voodoo2 12MB is working fine.

TMU is used to store the textures and the second one is used in programs supporting multi-textures, and FBI stores the framebuffer and z-buffer.

Thanks for informations. I made format c to make sure I'm installing drivers correctly, if I'd know earlier I'd just give up with 3D Blaster drivers and start from the newest and spare myself a headache. 😁

Also that thing is on da wae as well as more 'official' pass-through cable, I made a big shopping recently.

Btw, price 541PLN, ~$126,56 was a good price for a card itself? And $180? Yes, first I got locally from my own country, second on ebay. 😀

No idea what are the prices nowadays... usually it was around 70-80€ for 8MB and 90-100€ for 12MB. Also depends on the exact model.

Requests are also possible... /msg kixs
