neat. snover and dosfreak mentioned some things, i could try those out. or did you do that yourself already?

Ok, this is part of the communication problem. I've already listed everything I've tried. Unfortunately, that was a wasted effort because I was testing "4 1/2" instead of 4.

DosFreak mentioned trying Connectix Virtual PC. It will work under VPC, but be aware that there's still a timer bug which VPC doesn't fix and is (almost) impossible to bypass.

He also mentioned using his Windows version. Have you tried this?

Snover mentioned using the Windows interpeter (SCIWV) on the DOS game. You could try that.

I can't do any testing on QFG4 as it's locked up in storage right now.

...its not so much about the game anymore. i just need to know.. why it wont work.

Some things just won't have a good answer.

i wish i knew all the stuff you guys did. grr.

Patience, experience, and a lot of reading help.

Any chance of the AGS engine being support anytime soon by any of the Windows Sierra interpreter projects?

Not that I know of, why would you want that?

Although the results may seem very similiar (especially for KQ1 VGA), IIRC correctly, AGS creates games very differently (note the huge data file sizes for 320x200 games).

If you WANT to run QFG 4.5, though...

http://qfg2001.cjb.net/

They have a Windows 2000 version available for download. I don't see the problem other than their FAQ says it may crash occasionally under Win2K (and they don't know why). It supposedly depends on the system.

As for the actual QFG4...

First, as far as support under FreeSCI (The only SCI interpreter I know of), the roadmap for development marks it as far in the future. QFG4 is a SCI1 game.

0.6.x VM support for SCI01 and SCI1, kernel support for SCI01

0.9.x Beta release series: SCI0, SCI01 and SCI1 support

1.0.x "Stable" series with SCI0, SCI01 and SCI1 support

FreeSCI is currently at 0.3.3. Boy, development sure is slow compared to SCUMMVM!

NOTE: SCIWV.EXE won't work. The Windows version uses SIERRAW.EXE, the DOS version uses SIERRA.EXE. You can find QFG4 warezed around out there, but most don't include the beginning fly-by video, which causes the Windows version I found to crash. I think I would have to find an actual CD-image of the game.

But it appears he got the version he owns working under WinXP, so it's all good.

Here's two pages with QFG4 patches:

http://www.dlh.net/cgi-bin/dp.cgi?lang=eng&re … ps&sys=pc&cap=q

And Sierra tech support still supplies the upgrade to v1.2 for the diskette version. http://www.sierra.com/support/techsupport.php

I had seen that earlier, but got nothing but 404s for all the "Win" links.
Now, of course, it's working.

They have a Windows 2000 version available...

Actually, AGS is Win32 so it should work on all 32Bit Windows.
