hiya, im trying to play constructor (from acclaim), and i have windows xp, i've done what this topic says: Constructor under WinXP

Constructor -DOS version (in winxp) […]
Show full quote

Constructor -DOS version (in winxp)

1. Download the univbe modified drivers from here: http://home.student.utwente.nl/r.muller...index.html (in the video problems section).

-Extract them and go to the \53a subfolder it created and copy the univbe.drv file from there to the game's /settings subfolder

2. Download the "VESA 2.0 patch for Windows NT/2000/XP (09/21/ 2002)" (nolfb.zip) from here: http://www.advsys.net/ken/build.htm

-Extract and place the files into the game's main folder.

3. You can either use notepad to create a start.bat file like this:

nolfb.com
game.exe

And then use VDMSound on setsound.bat (to configure the sound) and then use the Launcher's default VDMS config. on start.bat to play.

OR

Use VDMSound on setsound.bat (to configure the sound) and then on game.exe to play (but use the Launcher's "custom configuration" setup option to add this line:

C:\full path to\NOLFB.COM

[Note: If you do it this way, you have to use the full path even if nolfb.com is in the same directory as the game. Also, using the VDMS "autoexec.bat" box has a tendency (on my machine anyways) to crash Explorer if you are DblClicking on a VDMS shortcut.]

...into the "advanced" "dos environment" "autoexec.bat" box.

4. If you receive an error about "networking" and/or experience a frozen mouse...

Open c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt with notepad and change:

lh %SystemRoot%\system32\redir

to this:

REM lh %SystemRoot%\system32\redir

and then save.

[If you are actually using DOS networking for anything you will need to turn it back on later and this may or may not disable multiplayer in the game. VDMS's "enable low level networking" may also come into play (one way or the other) but I didn't think about that 'til now, so I don't know.]

-If I didn't forget anything the game should work fine.

Good Luck!

but i have a new problem now
the problem is:
when i run the "*.bat file", it runs but after some messages it says:
Error= Cannot allocate CD memory

could someone help me? i like this game a lot

my computer is:
athlon xp 2.4
512 ram
geforce fx 5200 128mb

the next version of dosbox runs constructor.
Try disabling sound. That might lower sound usage. (just for cause determinition)

How to ask questions the smart way!

I am having this problem too.

Hello everyone. I'm new to the site so please bare with me. 😀

I've installed Constructor successfully. I have then mounted its directory within dosbox. I then run the Dos version of the game (GAME.exe).

DOS4GW starts up .. then it says it cannot read the CD.

The cd drive has been mounted to the CD-ROM drive that currently has the Constructor disc inside it.

However, I have read about this SAPUCDEX helping DOS based CD-ROM games.

I have copied the .dll and .exe files into both the game directory and the C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ directory. I have modified the AUTOEXEC.NT to point to SAPUCDEX.exe instead of MSCDEX.exe.

However, I do not know how to activate this SAPUCDEX within dosbox? I have run 'SAPUCDEX' in the command line but it only says that 'SAPUCDEX will only run under Windows NT'. I have tried executing it through WinXP by clicking on it but nothing happens ( a black command window comes up for half a second then disappears).

Can anyone help? How does this SAPUCDEX work in conjunction with dosbox?

mount C C:\Constructor

mount D D:\ -t cdrom -ioctl

c:

C:\game.exe

Error = Constructor CD must be in drive.

no joy. 🙁

Are you sure you are using the right CD?

Try the command mount -cd to see a list of available drives.

then, use it in conjunction with the -usecd # mount parameter.

Is your Constructor CD still readable?

Try making an iso image from it to see if it can be read.

I am mounting the correct CD. It's in drive 0, which is the one I am mounting. The CD is fully working and tested. Created an ISO image of the disc and it's fine. Still no luck.

I know this works because I tested it with DOSBox 0.63 just a few weeks ago.

If you have had it working, could you please produce a step by step guide on how you managed to replicate this. I'm having some diffuiculty getting the game to launch properly through DOSBox.
