my second link has only one exe and one bat

Only helpful with a physical copy, not with the GOG version

The entire disc2 is mounted as an image, and it's in the cue/bin format for redbook audio support (Rename game.gog to game.bin and game.ins to game.cue, and you should be able to see the files)

and mount that (.cue) in daemon tools light

Still no dice. CUE image not found

game.ins = cue file
game.gog = bin file

I would copy them and rename.

Don't forget to edit the cue file so it points to the right bin file which would be whatever you rename it.

you can also try to mount just the .bin in daemon tools light

if that still doesn't help you can just mount the hdd image in daemon tools light and just copy the .smk files to the hdd image
and edit system.ini
[system]
animation_drive=c:\

I did try that but got the same error. No worries though, using DGVoodoo and the tweaks you posted, I guess 15-20 fps isn't too bad considering the game's age (as well as AMD CPU).

Would removing the fog cause more or less drops?

if you wonder what's there on the horizon in highest distance view (all 6 teleports on one picture + a soldier (over right redguard's arm 😉 ) (no idea why that one is so important 😉 )

you cannot have same error when mounting hdd image in daemon tools lite.
cd is not needed at all (you just won't have music)

you should be able to copy all files from the CD under dosbox
just quit the game from the menu and stay in dosbox
if dosbox automatically quits, than edit dosbox.conf at the end by removing the quit option (or the quit from bat)

anyway the movies are not needed too to just start the game for testing 😉
even tha speech file is not needed 😉
you can just copy the gog files to hdd image and it should be enough

you can add all that extra staff one by one later once you have the game running

Redguard distant sound loud
liqmat i wonder if you confirm the bug

Yep. Snake charmer is loud when I walk away from him, but fades in appropriately as I approach him. Weird thing is, that snake charm tune plays in several parts of the city (snake charmer not present) and those fade in/out appropriately with distance. It's like once the sound file is going full volume it wont stop until the sound effect is complete and then just cuts off.

what would be interesting to check as you got 31 fps in dosbox:

1. to get more fps go from the ship in the harbor through the left gate and to the beach and look at the see, (make a save cause navigating after the next step is a bit different if you don't remeber the map 😉 )
2. lower view distance as much as you can (to get even more fps):
SYSTEM.INI
[xngine]
back_plane=300
(you should have a nice over 100fps now (run game and check 😉 )
3. now you set a 12 fps limit in dgvoodoo2,

and check how the game behaves this way.
Whether it behaves normally or is it in slow motion
i think the game will start too fast, in a seconds slow down to normal, and question is whether it will slow down in seconds second time to slow motion
(sound doesn't matter, just notice whether the sound quality got worse or not)

i already know how to handle the slow motion with preserving high fps in qemu properly but just wonder if dosbox gonna have same effect and if it is a problem of qemu or the game
(this has nothing to do with sound bug)
(this has nothing to do with my previous post) (the long one in other topic 😉 )

Not quite 100fps, but with the back_plane set at 300 I got to see a hell of an air show!
