I tried running a Monkey Island VGA in EGA with the e parameter: it runs in black and white, while Fate of Atlantis runs in EGA very very slowly, taking 30 seconds to convert a frame, on a P3 450.

I'm sure I ran a demo of Fate of Atlantis on a 386 with EGA back in the day and it was playable. Looked terrible though.
