I picked up the Windows 95 Box Set of Command & Conquer + Covert Missions from a charity shop.

I am running XP Home SP3 fully patched.

I haven't seen the following problem listed. I have read on Vogons and elsewhere, the compatability for the various executables has been set at: Windows 95.

When I start up: GDI95 CD, installation stalls at the following warning:

Windows 5.1 is currently running. This version of Command Conquer is a Windows 95 only product.

Is there a switch that can be used with one of the .exe to get around the above?

I notice a lot of the discussion surrounding C&C was when people would have been running XP SP2, is the above situation unique to SP3?

Cheers for the feedback. No luck sadly. I had indeed selected the various .exe and switched on Windows 95 Compatibility Mode.

At least the charity shop purchase will allow me to play the Covert Missions CD. I'll download the game and hopefully find better success.

Great to hear about Red Alert 1. Another download to add to the list!

Many thanks for your input. I just could not get the Win 95 CD to work.

My solution:

Download the GDI .iso from here:

Fileshack: GDI and NOD .iso files separate

http://www.fileshack.com/browse.x/4280

-or-

EA - NOD & GDI .iso files in one .zip file.

---

Download the XP Patch from here:

ftp://ftp.westwood.com/pub/ccgold/CCGOLDXPPATCH.ZIP

---

Install the following patch to cure several bugs, including the 'edge screen' bug.

http://www.vk.cncguild.net/MISC/TD105UPD.exe

---

The above worked for me.

I just needed the GDI .iso, the NOD and COVERT CD's I purchased work normally once the GDI .iso has installed the game.

Thanks again everyone.
