Ok guys, this game is still driving me up the wall, did some checking on the different versions of the executable that are floating around:-

SWEP1RCR.EXE MD5 - 22C2781B3CF606B7A093EC5A39AC2AF5 - Original from English CD-ROM
SWEP1RCR.EXE MD5 - E6037733C5E769E0475D647F7588D2FE - This is the one Bladeforce posted, it's a NO-CD crack, doesn't play movies - When I run this I get a constant looping "crash" sound in the background.
SWEP1RCR.EXE MD5 - 9BE30E6704790B908884636144E280A5 - Fan made patch that uses parts of Wine for Windows - Doesn't work for everyone. Bundled into my installer.
SWEP1RCR.EXE MD5 - D86D5D03638C24AB6279F24079825794 - This is the one that was on the LucasArts FTP site before Disney axed it.

At the moment I can't get any version to run with DXWnd except the no-cd crack version Bladeforce posted. That version has the looping sound fault on my system. I don't want to use this anyway since I like the CD audio/movies etc. I've got a thread going over on the DXWnd sourceforge page too to try and get to the bottom of this finally.

If anyone wants the final LucasArts patched version, here's a quick Dropbox link for you - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1488717/SWEP1RCR.EXE

Just to add to the confusion, the final official patch you refer to is apparently the US (domestic) patch, but there was another version available for International users as well. View this page in the Wayback Machine to see the reference to the two different links on the LucasArts FTP server:

http://support.lucasarts.com/trg/xp/swep1racer.htm

This may explain why the third-party patching processes don't work for some users.

I can only find reference to a Mac version patch on that link. In the LucasArts ftp archive there are two replacement Star Wars racer exe files, one zipped up the other not, but they both have identical MD5 hashes.

Edit - wait, got it, there's some other potentially important information there too, thanks.

Edit 2 - MD5 File hash for the international version 44008C034CF696E1CDC569838A7F8B1B
Download here if you need it - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1488717/SWEP1RCR-int.zip

At some point LucasArts also updated the file A3DAPI.DLL which I believe is to do with audio processing, so may be useful to have that too https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1488717/a3dapi.dll

Still can't get the game working with DXWnd though, but at least I've got the latest patched files to work from.

And since there IS a separate International version, the original CD-ROM International version binary probably has a different MD5 sum from all the other versions you have enumerated. So perhaps a couple of folks with the International version can share the MD5 sum from their CD-ROM executable and make BuckoA51's list complete.

Hello.

I just wanted to give Feedback of how I ran the game with DXWnd.

At first, use a special installer to install the game from the CD correctly.
You can find the installer here:
http://www.play-old-pc-games.com/2013/12/02/s … pisode-i-racer/

There is also another fix, but the fix doesn't work well for me. (long startup - 6 minutes - distorted videos)

Then (for the US version), you need the Patched version of the executable for Racer, which BuckoA51 posted. (for me, using the original executable resulted in a white screen and game freeze during a race)
Link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1488717/SWEP1RCR.EXE
Then you import Star Wars Racer into DXWnd, select the patched SWEP1RCR.exe and now to the settings.

Everything not mentioned here, doesn't need to be changed.

Main
Run in Window = Disabled (enabling this will make my game run and crash immediately)
Optimize CPU (DirectX 1-7) = Enabled (enabling this, will make the run make run a bit "lag", BUT it fixes some sort of camera issue when enabled. So I recommend enabling this)
Keep Aspect Ratio = Disabled (only disable this if you want to use Widescreen resolution as described here: http://www.wsgf.org/dr/star-wars-episode-i-racer)
(Notice to the Widescreen resolution: You don't have to edit the Racer.EXE, only the SWEP1RCR.EXE)

The remaining settings can stay as they are.

Video
Uncheck everything (if you don't, you cannot run the game in higher resolutions than 800x600)

Input
Uncheck everything

Compat
Fake Version = Enabled - Windows 98/SE (the patched version will run too fast if this is not set)
Clean ZBUFFER @1.0 FIX = Enabled (this fixes the black/white screen issue)

Important Notice:
If you want to change the resoltution with racer.exe, close DXWnd first, then after changing and closing it, you can run DXWnd again and start your game.

If your progress is not saved, make a new character and see if this one gets saved. That is how I solved my problem with saving progress. Also try running the SWEP1RCR.EXE as Adminitrator

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
I hope this helps.

For those who want to use Widescreen, but don't feel secure in editing, here's an edited Patched SWEP1RCR.exe with 1920x1080. Simple copy that into your Racer folder and start the racer.exe and select the resolution.

Which one specifically? because the only .exe I can get working with DXWnd is the no-cd crack, and that strips out all the movies.

Also could you please not hot-link to my installer, give people the page where they can download it but don't link directly, thanks.

Ok great thanks.

Have you played more than one race? I was chatting to gho (author of DXwnd) over on the DXwnd discussion page and he said he got the game working but only up until the second race.

I was playing the first complete tournament now, and tried race 1 of the last one, and beside some graphical glitches, it runs fine, and you can also see that it runs in 1920x1080 resolution.
These graphical glitches can be a major annoyance though, e.g. on Ando Prime Center, they sometimes just "block" the way of what is ahead and you can only see it when you're really close to a wall. Any settings to fix that?

Ah okay. Your settings do not work for me, all I get is a black screen where the main menu should be. I can hear the music playing but see nothing on screen. Ah well.

Hmm, kinda strange.

Here's an image of my complete settings, cause I guess I explained it a little difficult:
DXWnd_SWEP1_RCR_2.jpg

Do you have any ideas on how to fix that grapihcal clipping issues? Cause as said, on some races, they are very annoying.

And what Windows are you using and NVidia or AMD?

I am using Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit and an NVidia graphic card.

I also posted on the DXWnd discussion now.

I'm using Windows 8 pro and GTX 770

It's not really that strange, this game is a buggy mess basically. Seems like everyone reports different performance/issues with it. For instance see the thread on the DxWnd discussion, one guy swears full screen mode will crash it instantly, while you claim full screen mode is the only way to run it!

Great !

Starwars Racer is perfect on my netbook vaio (windows 8.1 64bit).

On my other PC (windows 7 ultimate 64 bits), it works without any patch. Only with markus installer. It's because my radeon HD7850 is full compatible with this game.

White/black screen can also be fixed by:
1. New dgVoodoo (versions from 2.4) than can emulate old versions of DirectX - http://dege.freeweb.hu/ (DirectX 11 videocard needed)
2. Copying ReactOS wine libraries to game folder - http://www.old-games.ru/forum/attachment.php? … 12&d=1414853297 (contains *.cpl file for configuring, may require Offscreen: Backbuffer setting) - but there is no long-distance fog in the game with these libraries; works in Windows Vista/7/8/10 only (no 9x/2k/XP)
3. My "patch" that replaces game zbuffer - http://www.old-games.ru/forum/attachment.php? … 42&d=1396358079; doesn't work on NVidia; for English version only (you can make patch for any version by changing in hex-editor all occurencies of "DDRAW.DLL" to "PDRAW.DLL" in game exe).

BTW, the game can be installed by original installer with InstallShield Wrapper (InstallShield Wrapper).

PS. Looped sound in no-cd version can be fixed by copying Music folder from CD to the game folder.

Is there any way to enable AA? The only options that cpl file gives are "default" and "disabled".
