I can't get this f**ker to work. At all. I run it, and it does absolutely nothing. Zip. Nada. I've never even managed to catch it appearing in task manager's process list. Checking out NTCompatible, I see only one steady method people have reported working...

Install it under Win9x, and
then make sure that you install the 1.25c update. Then use regedit to
export the two following keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MicroProse
and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MicroProse.Boot into W2K and import the
reg keys and then you should be able to play the game with no problems.

Now, call me Mr. Silly, but I no longer have a working copy of Win95. And my disk's are all NTFS.

So, has anyone here got M:tG, run through this process themselves, and kept a backup of their .reg files?

Ask a question here, maybe.
http://www.maglib.mana.ru/forum/

Use a Russian-English translator, though. Babelfish (http://babelfish.altavista.com) can go from Russian-English but not English-Russian, as does WorldLingo (http://www.worldlingo.com). InterTran can go both ways (http://www.tranexp.com:2000/Translate)
as can Promt-Reverso (http://translation2.paralink.com/).

Also see this: http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%22HKEY_LOC … hering&filter=0
May give you some pointers to recreate a REG file to import.

Note: Giving this out would give out the registration key, which is why we're running into many Russian results in our search here.

Note: If you're gonna post there (looks like turnaround's a week or so) make sure you post the English version too.

Its at times like this that I wish I'd actually learned Russian that time I tried to learn it, instead of giving up after about two weeks. Damn my impatient nature:)

Try one of the other translation engines! Might be better, might be worse.

BTW - they also have a new UBB board here: http://maglib.mana.ru/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi - not too many people seem to be using it yet. You could post both places.

So it seems, it's primarily a support site for an application called "Magic Library". I'm not sure which Magic game it works with. Maybe all of them. (http://www.mobygames.com/game_group/sheet/gameGroupId,78/)

Just discovered that an old Google Groups posting spells it all out for you:

1) Find a Win95 machine
2) Install MTG
3) Copy all MTG program folders and files from the Win95 machine to
the Win2K machine
4) Export any relevent registry keys from the Win95 machine and import
them into the Win2K machine
5) Install all the patches you need, plus the unofficial Manlink 1.3.2 patch, available here: http://members.cox.net/adonald1/magic/

That seems to be right. Good luck!

Simple problem. Simple solution. Run the installer and the game with Windows 95 Compatibility mode (specifically Virtual Registry). Be sure you run BOTH with Virtual Registry or it won't work. This fixed a similar problem I was having with Rainbow Six (eg. wouldn't run without proper registry entries which didn't install properly in NT).

I hope.

Yes, it’s my fault.

This is what I was talking about when I suggested someone install under Win9x, then copy the files and registry entries way back when...(*grumble* can't find the thread). Everyone acted like I was crazy at the time.

heh...suuure it was, screwy.

In any case, Virtual Registry works much better -- no swapping around of computers.

Maybe you were talking about the guy that had a couple Win9x computers, but one was virii-infected and the other was their kids'?

Yes, it’s my fault.

Hrmm. That doesn't sound familiar.

I remember quoting NT compatible that certain games didn't want to install properly in Win2K, so the solution was install the game in Win9x, copy the files over, then copy the registry entries from Win9x to Win2K.

Believe me no acting is required. 😉

"Virtual Registry" is listed as what I used for Covert Ops like a year ago. It probly works.

I dunno, they still reference it on their website, and for Windows 2003 too, so it should still come with the package.
Weeeird.
Check around a bit, if you still can't find it I'll upload it.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Qfixapp isn't included in 3.0. Microsoft prefers the Compatibility whatamacallit Database Thingy. I don't. Which is why I ripped out qfixapp and use it seperately.
