Tried installing on win10 thinking it would be easier than XP but turns out it still requires some elbow grease. Got it going somewhat
but seems buggy and sluggish, plus you can't seem to maximize the rez unless in window mode.

Those of you who have got this working can you offer some tips? Bought this game at a "retro" store on impulse probably should've
gotten Halo master chief on steam instead I guess.

Force Vsync through your graphics card's control panel, or else use D3DOverrider to force Vsync. It should help remove stuttering.
I highly recommend installing Project Cartographer as it allows you to change the resolution and play online with other players.
The game ran flawlessly for me when going through the game on Windows 10 with Project Cartographer installed.

A mod you might be interested in is Halo 2 Reclaimed, which aims to make the PC port more like the Xbox version, haven't tried it out personally though.

Many thanks! Will take a look at both.

I decided to not venture down this "rabbit hole" and instead will wait till Halo master chief collection goes on sale on Steam.

If you don't need anisotropic filtering, Halo 2 Vista + Update 2 + Project Cartographer 0.6.4.2 is perfectly working on Window 10.

Just use Indirect Sound https://www.indirectsound.com/downloads/Indir … tSound_0_20.zip to restore multichannel audio (DSOAL if you want the EAX but without the LFE): http://vaporeon.io/hosted/dsoal-builds/dsoal-r422.7z

The same for Halo and Halo CE (they're perfectly working with dgVoodoo2 and chimera https://opencarnage.net/index.php?/topic/6916 … ted-2021-09-22/ , being dgVoodoo2 optional for some old 2.0 / 1.x pixel shaders code - if you don't mind just go for chimera)
