thought this would be of interest to all of us with p3/amd retro builds.

fluidsynth/qsynth is my go to dosbox midi synthesizer under xubuntu 20.04, but i couldn't easily get it running under xp on my athlon system. i convinced the guy who builds the official precompiled windows binaries on github to strip out the sse2 code so it works under xp now (i think he used /arch:ia32 so no sse1 either):

i'm using it with great success in my current setup to provide midi wavetable to my even older p54c laptop build over null modem cable:

softmpu > serial cable > hairless midi serial bridge > midi yoke > fluidsynth

(set com port speed to 31k in hairless midi)
