hmm difficult topic title 🤣 I try to explain:

I want to burn my DOS games collections on CD
ofcourse I want them to run with VDMSOUND 2.1.0 (I have winXP)

before I burn I start the games once with rightclick -> vdsound, run wizard and remember settings

VDMSOUND creates a shortcut in the same dir so I can start my game with one click from now on..

BUT when I burn the games on CD, the drive letter changes if I run from CD, so the shortcut does not work anymore

is there a way to exclude the drive letter in the path and let VDMSound find it itself???? It would be very usefull
to explain where I am talking about, heres a screenshot:
goblins.jpg
(I use dutch winXP so don't mind the unknown words 🤣)

i.e. I want to run dos games with VDMSound directly from cd, I can make the shortcuts before burning..........so if I could make the path variable, it would work!!
I know I can change the drive letter to my cdrom station, but then it would only work on my desktop pc or my laptop but not on both 😉

thanks in advance,
frank

first of all thanks but I already had a feeling it had to do with that..

I have to do something with the 'subst' commando??

can you enlighten how to use it with VDMSound pls??

C:> help subst

isn't there just a substitute command to address the dos path? like putting a *\games\blabla instead of d:\games\blabla

or a command so it directly looks in the directory you're in?
I thought '.' was it but that doesn't work with the vdmsound shortcuts

  1. Define a virtual drive letter. V is good.
  2. Point V to the hard disk path, e.g
    D:> subst V: "D:\Games\Classics\Goblins\Goblins3"
  3. Create VDMSound shortcut using the virtual path, e.g "V:\Gob3.Exe"
  4. Burn everything to CD.

When you want to run it from the CD (drive X?), do a

D:> subst V: "X:\path\to\goblins\on\cd"

before running the VDMSound shortcut.

Or something like that.

Yes, just manually replace "D:\...." with "." or remove the entire path if the shortcut is in the same dir as the .exe in the dialog you took in a snapshot. That should work and avoid any subst.

Also, once on CD, you can tell VDMSound to create shortcuts onto your desktop should you need to change ay settings later.
