I need 5V *FAST PAGE* memory ONLY, on a 168-pin DIMM.

Where do I even???

Looks like I'm putting everything back in its cardboard box and banishing it to the back of the cupboard, hopefully for another decade.

Picked up a trio of as-is old laptops from a semi-official "Ewaste drop off that also allows you to buy parts and pieces from the skids of parts people dropped off" I found near work. Spent 20 bucks CAD.

Got a Toshiba Satellite T1910CS, a Toshiba Satellite 110CS, and a Compaq Presario 1200.

The two Toshiba's worked right away - the T1910CS is a 33mhz 486 with 4 MB of RAM and the 110CS is an early Pentium with 40 MB of RAM. Hard drives and 3.5" drives in both work great.

The Compaq... well the Power Cord attached light comes on, so at least that circuitry works... but no other signs of life just yet. I'll pull it apart and see what I can find - this one'll be nice if I can get it working, nice 1998-1999 era laptop I can use for mid 90's portable gaming.

Well I've got the two Toshiba's set up - the 486 I put Dos 6.22 and Windows 3.11 on, the only thing I'm missing is the graphics driver. It works on the generic ones, but from what I can tell there is some kind of specific driver somewhere.

The Pentium 1... well I put myself through a 21 Diskette install of Windows 95A. That was.... fun? 😵 It's only a 2 GB hard drive and no USB so I didn't see a need to go to 95B or C

Batteries are toast in both, although the one in the 486 seems almost like it wants to charge. Can't get more than a second or two out of it so far.

Both laptop's hard drives check out with a full surface scan - even the 200 MB, likely original one in the 486.

The one thing I'd love to find is a PCMCIA sound solution for DOS/Windows 3.1/Windows 95. Neither of these laptops have sound on-board, but with an external monitor they'd make pretty passable little vintage gaming machines. Not sure where I'll ever find one of those though, or even if they exist.

Did a minor repair on a Voodoo 3 3k pci that was bought as gold scrap and is working well, just need a bracket and a fan.

Hah, yeah that's the right RAM. It's not super hard to get hold of, but the problem is it wasn't in my apartment last night when I was elbows-deep into the project. There's a lot to be said for having all the parts around to finish something when you've still got the motivation & energy to work on it. I don't feel like leaving it disassembled on my table for three weeks while waiting for one DIMM to be shipped. Finding the single stick I had after ransacking everything and then realizing it was EDO & wouldn't work was like a stab in the face. 😜

Finally found and bought a Radeon 8500 at a decent price, now I have one less missing hardware in my memory lane of computer history.. Now I just need to decide whether I want a Radeon 8500, 9600XT or 9800PRO in my Tualatin build..

Today I wrote a rough first draft of the MIDI player... It can now play CANYON.MID through an MPU-401 UART compatible interface.
Perhaps tomorrow I can try adding some support for the IBM Music Feature Card.

IBM Music Feature Card support was added. First version didn't work on real hardware yet.
Went back to the drawing board, modified a few things. Hopefully the new version is going to work.
Then it's off to reverse-engineer some Sierra games and see what it would take to make their IMFC mode output to the Windows MIDI Mapper in DOSBox.
Then connect an FB-01 emulator (like MUNT), and we're done.

Well, it's actually not ALL of my cards, but the ones I'm planning to sell. Mostly bog standard stuff.

Got an old never completed rig out from the dust as I was searching for an old Tagan PSU. I had the intention of opening the Tagan up to check for bulging caps (which I'm actually expecting to find...probably lots) but not looking forward to visually inspect the caps due to how packed this PSU is build.
Also checked some of my other retro rigs and apparently the GA-6OXT in my Tualatin rig has developed a single bulging cap 🙁

A buddy of mine gave me this book, completely out of the blue. It really made my day because books exactly like this are how I learned to type back when I was a kid before most kids my age had even used a computer.

Worked on Five Nights at Freddys 486 a bit......

- FIgured out how to scroll the office, now I have a working office
- Also scripted in the camera system, looking good
- fan is in there and animated....I made a 80's style oscillating fan rather than the old wire one from the real series
- did some work on the art for all of the rooms
- started installing sounds and ambience, a long ways to go but getting there
- strategized out how the Animatronics are going to work...ie, starting the drawing of their on-screen "objects" to turn on and off depending on if that character is present in the room or not.

Overall, runs damn good on a 486 DX4-100 thus far - https://www.instagram.com/p/BRuvKIEjOtQ/?take … y=madmikeshredz

Didn't even know you were working on this. Looking fantastic. Keep at it. Got a main thread for this project to link me to so I can follow it for updates there?

Did a rare thing of removing an item from my collection instead of adding one - left my LG CRT for recycling.

Was fine when I got in 2 years ago, but it started displaying inverted/incorrect colors in the corners, 2 big burn-in splotches appeared an the right and then left side of the screen that would become more and more visible.
Time to hunt down another CRT. Games like Unreal and Doom 3 just don't look right on an LCD. Too bad it's hard to find models as good as this one.

My builds!
The FireStarter 2.0 - The wooden K5
The Underdog - The budget K6
The Voodoo powerhouse - The power-hungry K7
The troll PC - The Socket 423 Pentium 4
