I started a thread about another odd type of motherboards, Socket 423 and 478 motherboards with the universal AGP slot which are not as common as their 1.5v keyed only AGP counterparts, but still useful for some things, including Voodoo cards, and maybe make fun with them, especially when testing and comparing.

Here a list of motherboards i could find arranged by chipset, the list is incomplete as now (i'm still looking for more motherboard on the net), some Socket 478 boards might support Hyperthreading (Pentium 4 3.06 GHz Northwood HT FSB 533, ethier on the model istelf or a revision of the model, please check CPU support). This tread will be updated eventually. Boards with link have UH19 page

That's a much bigger list then I imagined. Are you sure that the entire list not only has a universal slot but also supports 3.3 volt cards? As I understand it there are a number of boards that do have the unkeyed slot but that don't support 3.3v.

Got one of those boards and it is a Soyo Dragan Lite, would take the chance with a TNT 2 M64 but the caps on the board are already popped.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

The TNT2 is already 1.5v, you need the original TNT for this.

Probably best bet for testing would be older ATI cards, or maybe SIS cards. Original TNT's aren't so common anymore so even though they don't have much in the way of practical use I hesitate to just fry them.

@Carlos S.M. Thanks for starting this thread. I actually was considering starting one myself only I only know of a handfull of P4 boards that were confirmed to work with 3.3volt AGP cards and I've never owned one at least not that I know of.

I might have found a deal on an MSI 645E-MAX motherboard. It's on your list and looks like the AGP slot is unkeyed. Problem is I can't finding any documentation that indicates specifically that it supports 3.3 volts. Anyone know for sure?

I have an AOpen AX45-533 U2 motherboard as well as an S3 Trio 3D/2X card I can try in it soon.

it supports 3.3 v cards, i had an MSI 645E Max2 which is an updated version of that board, i tried many old 3.3 volts cards on it

So my P4S533 (version 1.03) refuses to POST with some 8x AGP cards. The green OK light goes off with them plugged in. Stupidly enough, I ever tried to power the board on (thankfully it just shutoff without any harm).

Cards Tested:
SiS Xabre 200 (double notch AGP 8x, can POST on Abit BE6)
HIS Radeon 3650 (rear notch AGP 8x).

Maybe need to update the BIOS.

I have the Asus P4S533-VM and with some cards (mostly older ATI cards), I had to set AGP speed to 2x instead of 4x for it to work. The newest card I tried is a GeForce 4 and FX card and they worked fine.

Hmm... maybe the board went a little crazy. But I retested last night and can confirm that AGP 1.5V (Radeon 3650 AGP 8x) works fine. But it seems somewhat unstable. The 3650 AGP would randomly crash the system during 3DMark testing. It wasn't often, but was noticeable.

Those newer ATI AGP cards are natively PCIe and use AGP to PCIe bridge chips. I remember those having quite substantial compatibility issues with many motherboards, particularly older (pre AGP 8x) ones. My money is on the card being the culprit rather than the board.

What about the Asus P4S-LA (HP OEM)? Or is this redundant / related to the P4S333-M?

Seems similar, although both boards uses different chipsets, P4S-LA uses a SiS 650 chipset (i listed as SiS 651 by mistake, going to fix that) when the P4S333-M has the SiS 645 which doesn't have onboard video

P4S333-VM and P4S333-VF used the same chipset, but different PCB.

Sorry for necroposting, I have bought recently an ECS P4S5A/DX+ thinking that I would have been able to use the Pentium 3.06 with HT, unlucky this specific model of mb is not able to enable HT, now I'm looking for another mb that let me use the HT feature while keeping the highest AGP support as possible, any suggestion?

I believe it did support HT, but no idea, i could try mine with the 3.06 HT and newest BIOS if you want, if not, another board, i know gigabyte Gigabyte GA-8ST800 and Gigabyte GA-8ST667 supports them

Also if i remember, if you plan to use the voodoo 5 5500, i heard the ECS P4S5A/DX+ has issue with that card
