Hey all,

Bought a cheap Matrox Mystique 4MB on eBay. Popped it in an IBM Aptiva, doesn't boot. No video/post. Tried it in my Dell Dimension XPS D333, no boot and post but the machine makes some beeps (presume it's the faulty/no video card beep). Both machines work fine when used with another PCI video card (or in the Dell's case, an AGP one). The card looks very clean inside and out. I tried cleaning the PCI contacts on both sides with isopropyl alcohol but it didn't help.

Pictures would be nice. Here.

update - my desktop has PCI slots so I tried it in there. It seems to work but not on the other machines.

Ho ho ho. Fixed it! Found this ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/bios/351notes.txt

and ftp://ftp.matrox.com/pub/mga/bios/setup351.exe

Plugged it into the Dell with the AGP card (ATI Rage) as the primary video card. You can update the BIOS manually with those MGA utilities. mgamon tells you what card you have and then you can run updbios to update it. In my case, I had to run it manually by using progbios -i 858-8.bin -k

just figured this might help someone... This method works for some other Matrox devices like the Millennium, Mystique, Marvel G200, etc. tested it in the Dell and now it runs like a charm on the Aptiva.
