Hello:

I am trying to get DOSBox running on a Fedora 8 box, using Gnome desktop environment. My sound is working fine in Fedora (Gnome). But, when I fire up DOSBox and try to run any game with sound, I get nothing. The games detect the sound card in DOSBox (sb16), but where it should be playing sound, I get silence. I have looked all over and so far haven't found a solution. I have tried changing settings in the config file (device=oss), and no luck. I read another post that mentioned a conflict with the desktop environment and a "sound wrapper" for DOSBox, but I haven't been able to find anything in the documentation on this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much in advance....

That was the issue (MIDI not working within Gnome). It looks like I had disabled the "avahi-daemon" which Fedora 8 needs for some of the sound functions. After I re-enabled this service, everything works great. Thank you for your help.
